Please add the second e when referring to Ohio State.
Or... if you're my sisters-in-law in Kentucky, "theeee aige" vs. "thuh dau-wugg"

This is hilarious.
Ohio State didn't start doing the THE thing until 1986 and it was because the abbreviation "OSU" was no longer distinct to the diploma mill off 315.
Only a complete bonehead would dispute that it comes across as pretentious, arrogant, and obnoxious. Of course, if you're the type of person who would actually do it, I'll need to explain what those three words mean.

It's not like OSU is the only place to do it. I go to The University of Akron and that is the official name of the school. From my understanding that was done to re-brand the school for its aspirations to one day equate the school with any thoughts of pretentiousness.

If the "ou" part of your handle refers to The Ohio University, I feel saddened that you posted a pic that can't even spell "journalist" properly, considering that Scripps is one of the more highly regarded schools in that field.ou1980 wrote:![]()

People are choosing to shorten the name in conversation. Not shortening the name doesn't make in incorrect in my opinion.tk421 wrote:Other schools have "The" in their official names but you don't hear them using it all the time.Con_Alma wrote: I can't believe that he doesn't understand that it's in the official name of the school. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The name change to "The Ohio State University" was adopted in 1878. http://library.osu.edu/sites/archives/resources/chronopart1.phpNNN wrote: This is hilarious.

Also, it is recognized in the Ohio Revised Code, section 3335.01, adopted in 1953.

I'm not referring to the title of the school, I'm referring to the excessive emphasis on the word "THE". There are plenty of schools out there whose titles begin with "the", and only one emphasizes it. And again, that started in 1986.dat dude wrote: Wrong, wrong, wrong. Sure, here's something from the actual university website.LJ wrote: Source that people have only used "The" since 1986?

In 1986, a new University logo was introduced in the hopes of moving away from the "OSU" symbol, which had been used since 1977. The change from simply "OSU" was said to "reflect the national stature of the institution." University officials wanted the institution to be known as "The Ohio State University," again, since OSU could also mean Oregon State and Oklahoma State University.

lol!!
I still see no proof that no one started calling it The Ohio State University until 1986.
