First mistake, reading the huffington post. I'm not sure a greater collection of bitter faux-intellectual know-it-alls has ever been collected.

Well, maybe the old jjhuddle (I'm kidding!).

Calling Jason Kitchen a "journalist" is an insult to actual journalists. He's a dickhead.

Come to think of it, that's an insult to dickheads.

The first of the aforementioned sweater-twins was a reporter from the local Columbus Dispatch (every journalist's dream destination after The New York Times and The Washington Post).
Dude, you are writing freelance for the Huff-Po! You have absolutely NO room to talk.

I chuckled, and then laughed out loud.

"Dear Internet,
People think it's dumb when we say THE Ohio State University. Those people suck."

Who gives a shit! The writer isn't wrong...a lot of people other than Ohio State fans...find the use of the THE before the university name is pretentious and stupid.

But a lot of people...myself included...just don't give a shit either way. I suggest some people take the same view point.

I don't know about ALL, but he did lose some credibility. Especially that early in an article, you never want to make an error like that, you'll lose people before you can even make your point(s).

It doesn't take much research to find out that Gonzo isn't going to be announcing his name in the starting lineups, because, well....he won't be starting.

Pretentious? It's part of the name of the school. Do they find using the word "State" pretentious when referring to the school??

Damm right it's pretentious. And if someone like this didn't whine about about it once a week, we wouldn't do it. :)

Watching others squeal and yelp about it is what makes it so much so fun.

that guy is an idiot. I can see why he would write it though..too jealous of ohio states dominance over michigan this decade.

You can tell he is a little nerd because any casual sports fan would know that Gonzalez isnt starting lol.

It is pretentious...but frankly, we OSU fans just don't give a damn.

My favorite part is that he writes the whole article about the use of the word "THE" and then he types

"I didn't attend the University of Michigan (high school was not my best effort...."

technically not the whole season, he did play a little bit in the first quarter of the first game and from what i read, and wasnt placed on IR until december. the guy was just trying to make a point and picked the only player from OSU on the Colts to play a down. but hey its easier to blast the guy for that instead of the subject of the article.

Did he win THE Pulitzer Prize for that article?

He's just a jackass. He never accomplished anything of value in his life so he feels the need to belittle others. If he was really important he would have a page on THE wikipedia so that I could make fun of his life :)

I can't believe that he doesn't understand that it's in the official name of the school. Always has been. Since inception. The name of the school is not "Ohio State University".

THEE is spelled with 2 e's, is it not?

Please add the second e when referring to Ohio State.

Other schools have "The" in their official names but you don't hear them using it all the time.

No, not when used as a definite article. In modern English, we tend to pronounce 'the' with an 'eeeee' sound as opposed to an 'uhhh' sound when it is followed by a vowel. E.g., "theeee egg" vs. "thuh dog."
