Mini GOAT of Ohio

Very lackluster effort by OSU, especially on defense. Still won going away. Which is a good sign...an effort like this the past 2 yrs equals a loss. Although the effort wasn't all there, they still know how to get it done. As much as you don't like to see this...it is the nature of the game that a game like this is going to happen..especially after Sunday great game. Turner was bad on defense, but absolutely a stud on offense in second half. Win is a win.

Everyone is in full support of what Matta does when they're winning, i'm interested to see how the fans respond when the Bucks take a frustrating loss and Matta doesn't try putting someone else in. I'm not going to complain about this because OSU won and like previously stated, "a win is a win." However, 40 minutes and not a point until the final 2 minutes - pathetic.

Ohio State next season (especially if Evan stays) may be the deepest team in the country. 6 scholarship guys coming in that can flat out play. OSU could go 11 deep.

The only thing mind boggling...is your hatred towards Diebler. When he doesn't play well, you put forth an entire paragraph about it. When he plays well as he did vs Minny...we see a couple words. Seriously, its very transparent. Get over it. Diebler is flat out better then Hill. Diebler didn't play well....but still hit a HUGE shot when it was needed. Thats WHY Matta sticks with him.

I said before my problem with him is his inconsistency. He played great against Minnesota and showed what he's capable of. By flashing his potential and then laying a egg is frustrating.

And I honestly don't know how you play 40 minutes and get 0 rebounds and assists. You almost have to try to be that bad. Makes me wonder if he's reading Titus' blog too much and trying to get 4 trillion himself.

I think you are right....Something needs to be going on behind the scenes that we don't know about. Maybe not putting forth the proper effort in practice or voicing his opinion about his playing time to the coaches. Whatever the case, he is evidently on the coaches' shit list and I would suspect we won't be seeing him anytime soon this season.

Anyone hear if he's hurt or anything? He got some significant playing time last year on basically the same team. I understand if he hasn't improved like others, but there does seem like there's more to it.

It's the only logical explanation.

Haters don't care or think intelligently. Who knows, maybe Diebler didn't feel well. 3-point shooters can be streaky. After a few shots didn't fall, Diebler could probably tell he was a tad off. So unlike selfish Me First players, he didn't keep chucking up misses. This team does have Turner, Buford and Lighty, who all can and have scored 25. Diebler doesn't need to score in double figures in every game. There is only one ball, Turner has it in his hands the vast majority of the time. He shoots or creates or dishes. He gets the ball to the open player, he gets the ball to the player who is hot. ALL POINT GUARDS DO THAT, get the ball to the player who is on a roll. You did see who Turner got the ball to when Ohio State needed the biggest basket in the game didn't you? You did see who made THE biggest basket of the game didn't you? Even when Diebler is having an off night Matta stiks with him because Matta considers Diebler to be his coach on the floor.

Funny that you claim you are a true fan yet you spent numerous posts throwing Hill and Simmons under the bus discussing why Matta is right with not playing other guys. I'm curious why i'm not a true fan. What do I need to do in order to be more like you almighty fan? What i'm even more curious about is that I mention ONE thing about Diebler and all the sudden i'm not a true fan. You have the shortest fuse of anyone i've communicated with. Again, I question why Matta sticks with Diebler on a night like this and you give some way too complex analysis of the situation. Here's the bottom line and all that is important - 40 minutes, 1-7 from the field, 1-6 from beyond the arc, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 steal, 0 blocks. You defend this guy like he is a god, when in reality, he is a very average player. I don't care how streaky 3-point shooters are, you mean to tell me that he can't grab one rebound, or feed one person for a basket? We are talking about Jon Diebler here, not Evan Turner, not Lebron James, not Michael Jordan, not Kobe Bryant. I fully understand if this is your top player and by keeping him on the floor he is making those around him better - playing great defense, hitting the boards, drawing other defenders, and distributing the ball to those around him. Diebler did none of these tonight. If you are such a good fan, I worry why you aren't concerned with why he was still in the game - you're really not looking out for what's best for the team.

Again, I told you why Matta sticks with Diebler when he isn't having a good game STATISTICALLY. Pay attention this time. After Turner, Matta trusts Diebler more than any other player on the team. Matta considers Diebler his coach on the floor. Obviously Turner also trusts Diebler more than any other player on the team. Who did Turner want to take the most important shot in the game? If Hill or Simmons were in the for Diebler do you think Turner would have wanted either of them to take that shot? HELL NO. THAT is why Matta wanted Diebler on the floor. Who do you think Buford, Lighty, and Lauderdale would want to take that shot, Hill and Simmons or Diebler?

So you spoke to Turner after the game, and he told you he trusts Diebler more than any other player on the team. You look foolish with those types of statements.

PJ and Simmons are PG's. Thats why Matta signed them, thats basically where they have played mostly. Well, with the move of Turner to PG, its obvious they arn't, no should they take away time from him. He is needed on the floor. On top of that, both are under 6' tall. Move them to the 2, and quite often, its a mismatch defensively. PJ is below average perimeter shooter as well. Simmons has been hurt. Its called limitations. Two bench players, who basically play the same position are are quite often, at a mismatch defensively now with OSU playing mostly MM defense.
As far as Diebler, I'v said it once, I have said it a million times...he is what he is...a 3pt shooter. He isn't going to be on every game. And again, he has established himself for what he is, which again, opens the floor up for Turner, Buford and Lighty to do their thing.
I am not sticking up for him, I realize he didn't play well, he should have at least a handful of rebounds. Asst? Well, he isn't ever going to have many asst as he is a catch and shoot player. On top of that, Turner has the ball 90% of the time. And although others "looked" like they did....it was a total lackluster effort by the entire team. That was obvious watching the game.

They did win, and like I said it my first post here, a win is a win. This team have IMO overachieved up to this point in the season considering Turner's injury.

It's quite obvious that I don't like Diebler as a player. But I really do understand his importance to this team. Like last night, even if he misses his first 6 shots, he could make that next one. I get that he's a shooter, but I honestly think he has more potential than what he's showing. And the thing that bothers me more than anything is that he's soft. I get it that Lauderdale, Simmons and Hill are offensively challenged, but I like those guys because they play hard and if there's a loose ball, more times than not they are going to get it. If there's a loose ball, I'd be shocked to see Diebler come up with it.


Looking forward, OSU wins their next 2 games and should be Illinois, and that could potentially put them top 10. That gives them 20 wins and then the two big ones, before finishing up with 3 more games they should win (I think they drop 1-2 to Illinois).

That's a hell of a year and then they head into the Big 10 tournament. With a solid showing, they could get as high of a 3 seed in the tournament which could play out nice for them to make a little run.
