Don't you just love it when you're down, and something really unexpected lifts your spirits?

I was having a rough day today. Computer was acting up, as it has been lately. Hard drive is going bad, and it's about dead.

Fed Ex truck pulled up and had a box for me. One of the guys I helped out in December made a LOT of money because of my help, and he knew my computer had been on the fritz for awhile. So he bought and shipped me a new laptop. It's an HP tx2500 Notebook Tablet. It's got a decent hard drive size (250 Gig), a pretty fast processor (2.6 Ghz 2 Duo Core), and a 3 Gig RAM.

Plus, since it's a tablet, it's all touch screen.

It really made my day. Great upgrade from my single-core processor (1 Ghz), 80 Gig hard drive, and 1 Gig RAM with a bad motherboard and no WiFi capability.

What kind of stuff in recent memory has caused your day to brighten ... to be just what the doctor ordered?

Going to work usually. I work with a bunch of older women who are like mom's to me. They cater to me and pretty much I don't have to lift a finger unless it means doing something "manly."

In all seriousness... I won an iPod touch on our first teacher work day this year. For any other teacher out there, you all know that these days are HELL. They make me NOT want to be a teacher.

What is it about a teacher work day that you hate? Isn't that when there are no students in attendance that day? I'm sorry but teachers only work the equivalent of half the year, what is so bad about a teacher work day?

The fact that it isn't a "work day." It is an inservice day, where we are in meetings all day, and it is the SAME meetings every year. You aren't a teacher, so you would obviously have the response that you did.

teachers definitely do not get enough credit my mom is a teacher and she deals with rude unappreciative students and parents on a regular basis

I understand that it can be an inconvenience, but comeon, it makes you not want to be a teacher? I really feel that teachers have it made as far as schedule and time off goes. I have a lot of friends that are teachers at all levels (grade school thru college) and they pretty much agree with me when I say they have a gravy job. 2.5 months off, all weekends off, all holidays, etc. I understand lesson planning and all that, but alot of the ones I know can get it done during school because they have only so many classes and the rest of the day is free (high school teachers).

I think I lean on my Grandmother as a day brightener...I do it often, but probably STILL not as often as she would like. She appreciates me because I'm the youngest grandchild, and I'm the only one not married/with kids/in a serious relationship...so I can make time for her.

I think she loves me. No one has ever read any of my work unless my Grandmother puts eyes on it first, because she's my most honest critic. She says she wishes I would write in a less cynical tone, and I've honestly been trying. Hasn't been going well. Still, she hasn't disowned me just yet, but it's a young year.
