Earlier this morning a Scientist I work with came in to my office and said he needed me to go with him to Wuxi to help solve an issue with product we tested in Canton that is reading twice the torque in China. I said well make sure your boss knows b/c it's going to hit his budget and it'd probably be better to use Wuxi's EE's so it didn't hammer that budget. He says he's not sure if they have anyone who can help him there and he'll talk to his boss. I said well If you call so and so they should be able to tell you.

Fast forward to this afternoon....
His boss stops by my office and asks if it's necessary for me to go with him? I said I wasn't sure and to ask his guy if he called Wuxi to see if they had an EE that could help. His boss says I don't know, all I know is he told me he was bringing you and that's going to hit my cost center.

The guy stops by my office a few minutes later.. seems kinda upset and says " how am I supposed to know if Wuxi has an EE that can help? My boss is pissed b/c you're throwing me under the buss here!" At this point I'm past the breaking point and said "Why don't you do what I told you can call over there and ask if they have an EE who can help. You're the dumbest damn Scientist I know"

He storms out... sends me an e-mail just a few minutes ago saying "Wuxi has an EE who can help. You don't have to come"

That all could have been solved at 8 am this morning. The lack of logic displayed from a Ph.D is frightening.

Well with this particular guy, he gets an idea in his head and doesn't stray from it. So if he decided that hes going to Wuxi with me, then that's it. Same with his projects... he thinks of something and that becomes the only right way of doing it... till it fails and thinks of something else and repeats first step.

Just another quick background on this guy..... He calls me a few weekends ago on a friday night while I'm out drinking.. its like 10 oclock and he's panicking ... he says "you have to go in to work right away and fix the data collector.. it hasn't collected data in 9 minutes and this is a critical test." I said "which screen are you on?" he says back "10 minute interval screen". I said... "ok.. wait one more minute and it'll show new data".. he says "this is no good, I need it every minute" I said..." ok, well.. click the 1 minute interval screen".. he goes... "ok this will work.. we should get rid of the 10 minute interval screen, its worthless." I said "well actually you had me make that for just ur last test b/c the values rarely changed and it was a lot of data to sift thru"... he says "ya ur right.... we better keep it" ...SMH
