Very good half for OSU. Shooting very well. Turner is unstoppable at this point. He was toying with Minn defenders.

This is the exact reason OSU comes out dead in the second half all the time - because Matta doesn't rotate his guards enough. You have a double-digit lead, get Simmons and Hill some minutes (both are great defensively) and this will allow Turner, Diebler, Lighty, and Buford to give the legs a bit of a rest. This is an extremely talented OSU team, but there is no depth and that will prove deadly come tournament time.
I would like to see Hill get some more minutes, especially when OSU has a 10+ lead. He's not great on offense but you know he's going to be active on the defensive side.

Top 5? Easily.
Best in the country? Possibly, but lets not make any claims till the end of the season. There are some other damn good players out there.
Yes there are. But NONE that do "ALL" that Turner does. There was an article on cnnsi this week on just how RARE of a season Turner is having statistically. No one else is close this year, and few EVER as far as pts, rbs, asst. He is best all around player.

Because Matta would rather run his horses into the ground. Which is why this team won't get out of the first weekend of the Big Dance again this year.

Like to see HIll get some min as well. BUT if you remember the game vs WVU....Hill and Simmons came in and it HURT OSU big time. They haven't been playing well at all. Simmons had actually been hurt with an eye injury a few weeks ago that many did not know about. Who knows whats going on with Hill.

I don't know if I'm ready to say hands down he is the best player in the country, but he is for sure towards the top on a very short list. It just blows my mind that he leads the Big Ten in rebounding. All of the other stats are normal for a guy of his caliber, but to lead one of the toughest(physically) conferences in the country in rebounding as a guard is HUGE, IMO.

Turner puts up amazing stats, no doubt about that, but lets not forget, he basically has to for this team to have any type of success. Turner has very little help outside of maybe one or two other players in any given game, therefor he basically has to do everything for this team. There are other players, on other teams, that have more talent around them, meaning they don't have to do as much as Turner does for their team to be successful, thus their stats may not be on par with Turner's.

Oh please. Turner had a month off. Buford usually gets plenty of breaks. Diebler and Lighty do play mnay min.
I am sure Matta would LOVE to play his bench....IF they EARN their time.
You can't jeapordize putting these guys in if they can't hold onto what you have worked to get.
And, you have to GET to the NCAA first.

Gotta agree with cbf. His stats alone are mind boggling. He is playing so far above the compitition, it's not even funny. It seems he can score at will.

...and other players have had to do the SAME...YET they haven't put up the numbers that Turner has. We are nto just talking about THIS year, we are talking about ever. If you don't think other great players have had to carry their teams in that time, then you haven't been around too long.
Read the article....statistically, Turner is having one of the best years...EVER in college basketball.

And that was in fact, a GREAT team! Two NBA Hall of Famers on that team in Lucas and Hondo. All 5 starters went onto the NBA. They then went to 2 more finals the next two years. Of course, there is also Knight, one of the all time great coaches.

When you said "best player in the country" I assumed you were simply talking about this year. Put Turner's career against some of those other guys and yes, he's had a much better career, for different reasons. But compare this year only to other players, and it becomes a much closer race. Can Turner be the POY? Absolutely, but he's still got a lot of work to do to completely solidify it.

I just think about 10 minutes from each of these guys would be a huge lift. When you have a 10+ point lead, it's not going to hurt you that much to rotate either Hill or Simmons in for one of the other 4 guards. They don't both need to take the court at the same time and I can't imagine the Buckeyes giving up much ground if Hill or Simmons is surrounded by 3 of the 4 solid guards (Turner, Buford, Lighty, or Diebler).

But the both basically play the same positions, 1,2. There is no other spots for them.
Hey, I don't disagree...but again, I would imagine if both were in good standing with Matta, they would be out there. Maybe an injury, maybe doghouse, maybe they aren't getting it done in practice. Who knows..a lot goes on that we have no idea about behind the scenes.

Now's the time, let the horses rest the legs a bit and get some quality minutes from the backups to help prep for a run in the tournament. Many teams will have OSU's number in the tourney when they realize that foul trouble can easily beat this team -dribble penetration and attacking the basket could be a killer.

Yes, I was talking about this year. Who is having a better year? Yes, he does still have work to do, long season. But if it continues...I don't see he won't win it. Of course, ya never know...
