Why would people (in this case the students) think they wouldnt get backlash for that?

I understand they werent doing it in bad taste....on purpose. But it comes off as such, and they should have realized that with the design immediately.

I wouldn't wear the shirt because I have a certain respect for our military personnel that fought and died for me. But to say that if people want to support their heritage or religion should have to leave is just plain dumb.

I hate people and think they are generally very ignorant and inherently morally deformed, so nothing really suprises me. Shit like this just re-inforces my beliefs so I actualy enjoy it when I see ppl do things in blatant poor taste. That way I can go on hating and don't feel remotley guilty about it.

Not what I am saying at all dude...but to wear a shirt supporting your countrys terrorism ON the country that is giving you the rights that you don't get over there is stupid.

Last time I checked, I didn't see Italians hijacking planes and flying them into US buildings.

No problem with someone repping their heritage/religion or what not, I do it all the time. But I feel like people would also have a problem with a person wearing a German shirt with an oven on it saying "best cooks for decades" or something along those lines.

Not really. Anyone who's ever had German food compared to, say, English or Irish food can speak to the superior quality of German cuisine. Most food reminds me of Marge Simpson looking at a spice rack: "Seven? There must be some duplicates. Or-e-gah-no? What the hell?"

Just because they were Arab doesn't mean "their country" committed an act of terrorism. Unless they were from Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia, then it probably wasn't their country.

Holocaust jokes are quite common and that isn't a bad idea for a shirt.

I guess i am a little confused. What does everyone think the shirt means? because the article doesnt say what the people wearing it thinks it means. what if they are saying something like "you(as in terrorists) cant bring down our culture". meaning they arent like the terrorists who did it and they are trying to seperate themselves from the radical arabs. i guess what i am saying is the meaning isnt obvious enough to me to be able to say its offensive or not.

Don't let those students kid you. They knew all along what these shirts portrayed. They may have a dual meaning, but one of those meanings comes out loud and clear. I can only hope that their class trip is to NYC and that they try and wear those shirts there. They will get whats coming to them. Of course their parents are probably the real U.S. haters....the apples don't fall far from the tree.

I just want to point out that it wasn't a country or a religion that carried out a terrorist act. It was a group of terrorists. I have no issue with hating the people who did it, but it's dumb to blame other people because they're from the same country or the same religion. (It would be like blaming all americans or christians for the oklahoma city bombing.)

When I heard about it on the radio(Detroit station) someone on there made it out to be that it was the Arab Americans members of the Class of '11 saying that after everything that has been thrown at them(stereotypes and hate towards them) that you will not knock them down. I can see what they are saying but they def picked the wrong way of showing it and should have picked a different way of trying to get their message across. I didn't hear them say it had a picture(didn't catch the full conversation) on it and just the words. I can see why the shirts were taken hey also brought up that these kids were probably 7 or 8 when it happened.
