So my best friend from college just happens to work in the same town as me 1800 miles from where we grew up and went to school. I just found out (from a 3rd party) that he REFUSED Saints tickets for this weekend's game (reason unkown, I'm waiting on a text reply).

The poll question is simple:

Is this guy still my friend?

Another question, what is an acceptable reason for turning down 2 FREE tickets to this huge game?

Unless there is a Wedding or Death in the family or some other major family event then there is no reason to turn down tickets.

No, he is not your friend.

There are no acceptable reasons. I had tickets to the Florida-Kentucky cfb game this past season. My wife removed herself from being maid-of-honor in her best friend's wedding (which was obviously the same day) to go. They no longer speak.

The Wednesday before the game, I had an emergency blood transfusion and then surgery on Friday. I checked myself out of the hospital on Friday night (got home about 11pm), left for Lexington at 6a, tailgated all day, went to the game, drove home the next day and ended up back in the hospital for another surgery the next week. There are no living excuses.

I voted for "I've killed for less." Not because I really feel that way (and to be honest, I didn't really read anything here to make a decision), but because whenever a poll has the option "I've killed for less", that is the only choice.

Acceptable reasons for turning down those tickets:

- Death in the family/funeral/calling hours
- Wedding in which he is more than a guest
- Special government job that is time sensitive
- He's secretly Jack Bauer and he must save the world for the 8th day in a row
- Another sporting event which is either of similar importance or is much more preferred by your acquaintance (jury is out on calling him friend) ... other sport must end with the suffix "-ball."
- It's been more than 6 months, and the opportunity has presented itself
- He worships Satan and refuses to go to anything with a "Saint" theme for religious purposes
- He actually did accept them, and he's just lying to you in hopes of surprising you with them

If none of the above apply, he shall henceforth be referred to as "a guy you grew up with."

I'll address them individually

- Death in the family/funeral/calling hours - Possible. For our friendship's sake I hope this is it.
- Wedding in which he is more than a guest - Not this, unless it came up this week.
- Special government job that is time sensative - He works for an oil company and has a 9-5 job.
- He's secretly Jack Bauer and he must save the world for the 8th day in a row - Possible, but highly unlikely.
- Another sporting event which is either of similar importance or is much more preferred by your acquaintance (jury is out on calling him friend) ... other sport must end with the suffix "-ball." - Nothing is bigger in LA right now than the Saints. He is no longer coaching basketball (he did last year).
- It's been more than 6 months, and the opportunity has presented itself - He broke up with his fiance in November and had 2 girls in the next 3 weeks. He's been with this same girl for a month or so now. Regularly tappin ass.
- He worships Satan and refuses to go to anything with a "Saint" theme for religious purposes - He has been with me to Saints games earlier this year.
- He actually did accept them, and he's just lying to you in hopes of surprising you with them - The tickets were given to a mutual acquaintence who told me about my friend refusing them and he being a second option (his stupid wife is taking the other ticket, I asked).

Your acquaintance = FAIL, then, unless there is some emergency of which you are unaware.

AND you got to see Taylor Wyndham knock Jesus Tebow's head off. I was there too, and Commonwealth was seriously shaking from the noise. +1 for you.

Maybe it's a superstition thing. The haven't lost when he sits in a certain spot at a sports bar or something like that. Maybe he doesn't wanna jinx it.

...Maybe, just maybe he doesn't want to take YOU! Possibly he has found a NEW BEST FRIEND and doesn't want to hurt your feeling by saying he's going with someone else. By saying he's not going, he doesn't have to deal with any other issues. It's taking the low road, but it is what it is. You can consider him a friend, but if he does take someone else, you need to get a dog or cat as your NEW best friend. Another possibillity is the 3rd party you found out from just might the person he's taking????

I wouldn't assume he'd take me (he has a gf now whereas before his fiance was still in college in OH). but your theory is possible. I wouldn't have even ask for the ticket now where as in October, I assumed I'd get it.

Yeah, dumb shit usually happens when I go to games. Unfortunately for me, I'm a Florida fan, so I wasn't especially happy about it. However, we were in the front row and the puking scene that they replayed 2308943958 times on ESPN happened right in front of us (he actually looked up right after my wife yelled something at him.....then.....*blaaaah*). I normally don't take pictures of games and stuff, but I did ensure the wife snagged one of that.....and it is framed.

Even if someone died or had a wedding, I would take them and either sell them or hook another friend up.
