Field is field turf, was installed last year. Visiting bleachers are not that small but arent very large at all. Bottom line is the field is 100 yards long and the Wood will show up to play. None the less not sure with all the options why they would choose this facility for a Regional final game.

It's a coin flip on location. Johnstown is 50 minutes for Fredericktown and 90 minutes for Ridgewood. Zanesville is 55 minutes for Ridgewood and 90 minutes for Fredericktown. Maybe OHSAA wanted to throw Johnstown a bone. Who knows? But what are you Ridgewood fan complaining about? I know if my team made it this far I wouldn't care where I had to go.

I'm with Doc. And the Wood fans will do a great job supporting there team, just early in the week don't want to burn themselves with just talk about the game. I don't think the visitors side will be able to hold all of the Wood faithful. Here we go Wood!

Johnstown's field turf is more like shag carpet, not even comparable to Zanesville's. It is slippery, trust me. However, there should be enough seating...

I have two real gripes with the field. First Fredericktown has already played on this filed once this year and it's a location they travel to every other year. Second after I saw a picture of the field, I really doubt there is enough seating on the visiting side .

If you look at the newer photo versus the older one where the field was still grass, you'll notice they cleared the trees on the visitor side. Hopefully to add more bleachers. Can anyone from the area either confirm or deny this?

I live in nearby New Albany (Coshocton native - Good luck Ridgewood!) and Johnstown did add some bleachers to the visitor side. Here are links to some pictures from the Johnstown band website...

One other thing I should mention... If you're coming to Johnstown from West Lafayette via SR16 and 161 you can't exit SR161 onto SR 37 heading North towards Johnstown because of construction on the new highway (usually mapquest, yahoo maps, and google maps would take you this way). You'll have to take SR 310 to SR 37 which is a few miles farther West requiring you to go completely through the construction zone which is only 45 MPH between Granville and SR 310 and heavily patrolled (I commute to Coshocton through this area 3 or 4 times a week). Be sure to leave some time for that.
If you need to find restaurants in Johnstown (limited selection) most of them are on US 62 (Coshocton Road). If you come into town on SR 37 go to the light by the town square and make a left. There's a big new Kroger and some restaurants out that direction. Metro Columbus is knocking on their back door in that direction so you'll quickly see the beginning signs of urban sprawl (if you see that you're going the right way if you see cows...wrong way).
I'm thinking about going to this game.

Field appears to be nice, but questionable on the facilities. Either way, we have to play the game. Don't believe the Freddies have seen the speed that the Generals have so that could present a problem. Going with the Wood by two scores.

Hey IS300, Thanks for all the very valuable information. I was planning on taking 37N off of 161 so thanks again.
Wood by 14 with the speed of the carpet.

Last year, the first year for the turf. I heard it was slippery and they said it would get better as it was used. This year I haven't heard one complaint about it being slippery.Bama wrote: Johnstown's field turf is more like shag carpet, not even comparable to Zanesville's. It is slippery, trust me. Wow the freddies played close to 2 months ago there. Being the field is only 2 years old it's the only time they have played on that surface. The Grove City Christian Malvern game is at Zanesville this week. That's 4 weeks this year GCC has played there. A regular season game agianst Rosecrans, week 11 against Rosecrans, last week against Shadyside and again this week against Malvern. I don't see any Malvern posters complaining. Again I would go any where to watch my team play this week, you should count your blessing.DaWood Mad Man wrote: I have two real gripes with the field.
