This hit happened in the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior hockey league). There is a reason I didn't post this in the Sports forum. The hit is just ruthless, disgusting, and I got sick watching it. The kid that got hit already has brain damage and went through convulsions as soon as his head hit the ice.

Here's a write up from the person who up-loaded the video:
Team Canada's world junior captain Patrice Cormier was ejected from a QMJHL game in overtime when he delivered a head shot to Quebec Remparts defenceman Mikael Tam.

Cormier, a forward for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, came off the bench for a line change and cut through the faceoff circle at centre ice, laying what appeared to be an elbow on Tam in open ice.

Following the hit, Tam was convulsing on the ice before being taken off on a stretcher. Tam suffered trauma to the skull and brain and lost many teeth. He is now in stable condition in hospital and will remain under observation for at least two days.

Cormier, a native of Cap-Pele, New Brunswick, was traded to the Huskies on January 7th. The 19-year-old was playing in just his third game with the team.

Following the game, Remparts head coach Patrick Roy filed a complaint with the Quebec Provincial Police. They collected several testimonies, and it appears that Cormier will face discipline from the QMJHL.

On Monday, TSN's Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie said "This Cormier elbow is sickening on so many levels. I have never been so discouraged about the game of hockey as now."

Honestly it really doesn't look that bad...but obviously it was....Sometimes those are the worst...

^^^^^That was a clean hit though.

The hit didn't look extremely hard, but it was dirty. Seeing that player lay on the ice going through convulsions was disgusting.

The reason I posted the video is because the kid that got hit was no where near the puck and Cormier lead will his elbow out.

how bout the defensemen who got scored on and took a swing at the goal post and hit his own goalie in the head..pretty ridiculous

Hockey is dumb. Clean up the sport and I might take it serious.

Last week I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.

The hit was dirty no doubt, but I was expecting worse. He leads with his elbow, but the guy he hits changes direction last second (at least it looked like it to me) and I think that plays a part too. I'm not defending what he did, but this is far from the biggest cheap shot I've ever seen in hockey.

Seen much worse hits than that first one, but it was dirty since he led with his elbow.

The cheap shot by McSorley was horrendous though and I remember watching that game and thinking "What is wrong with him?!"

Worst cheap shot I've seen, and that covers an awful lot of years (and a lot of film to fill in behind that).

Wow, the hit kind of looked like he missed at first, but he hit his face on the ice, that was pretty nasty....

There's an update on Cormier's suspension situation. He has suspended indefinatley, the length hasn't been annouced yet.
