Just heard on the news that Bonar turned down the Head Coaching job due to "lack of support". Davis is still undecided if he will come back next year to coach... What happens next for the Bellaire Big Reds?

Ok, i am really confused here. Didn't he just sue the district to get that job back? Did he not really want it and was just sueing to get the pay for it?

SOS,

We can only hope that Davis stays and continues implementing and reinforcing his system.

icskins,

Yes, and he won his arbitration. Although I don't know for sure, I think it was a matter of principle (?)

Preacher,

OK, that makes sense if he isn't going to coach. I just wasn't sure if he really intended to coach and then changed his mind or if it was just the principle, like you said. Thanks

I mean, that may be the reason. Like I said, I don't know for sure. Maybe he's going somewhere else to coach. :s

I just hope that whoever does coach, stays and takes control over the team(s) like they need to.

Honestly, I think Bonar made the "smart" and only decision there was to make and that was to reject taking the head coaching job back. I think that he had a bunch of people that are a little "more" upset than others that he had the chance to come back and coach... I think that may have had something to do with it... I am sure those people did not send very nice mail. The point from Bonar's side is that he won the suit. He cleared his name and will allow him to move on while dragging certain school officals names through the mud. Mission accomplished for Bonar... Move on and I hope you find a good job doing nothing. On the other hand, I think think that Davis IS the guy for the job... Hopefully things align and the deal is worked out... He will get the team turned around.

I agree SOS.

Davis was only there for the kids. He had to do alot of scrambling before the season, thanks to other coaches who refused to help him out or work with him. And just for that, he's pretty up there in my book.
Also, at least HE won a game his first year (sorry I couldn't resist haha)

I don't think they will even have a team looking at all the money problems that are on the news.

Isn't the state taking over the district? That usually spells trouble for athletics.

As I've posted before, what ultimately makes sense is a Bellaire/Shadyside school consolidation. Of course, that won't happen by next season but I think it makes sense for the economic viability of those districts.

A friend and I were just discussing that scenario last night.

Although it's a huge pill to swallow, it makes sense to do it. Bellaire, IMHO, has too many teachers as it is. And the school is big enough to absorb the additional kids. I would just hate for either school to lose their identity.

If it ever does happen, should be enough to bump Bellaire/Shadyside up to a D3 LOL

I'm not even sure what the enrollment is. My cousin went to SHS back in the 90's and there may have been 60 in her class. I know some classes have fluctuated and been a little larger but an infusion of 100 or less kids per class is not that significant (particularly since BHS is over staffed and not as large as it used to be).

I guess you could call their sports teams the Big Red Tigers. :D

dont think consolidation is in the near future plans at shadyside. they have a flyover mapping scheduled in the near future for a new high school at the leona middle school location. though i know plans change, dont really see any consolidation in the near future.

How do Shadyside/Bellaire supporters feel about a consolidation? I know that both schools have a long tradition and it would probably be harder for the Shadyside people to accept vs. Bellaire seeing that Bellaire seem to be the school in need of some help?

If there are no plans for consolidation, I still wish the best for Bellaire. I hope they are able to solve their financial difficulties and keep the athletics. Big Reds Football has a very long tradition and I hope they can keep it. I also hope that Davis stays as coach. He is the right guy for the job.

It appears that Bellaire has dug a very deep hole for itself. I just hope they can dig out.
