It' probably started as one coaches or GM's philosphy and worked it's way down through the NFL.

Why is Josh Cribbs not as valuable as a first rounder? He is better than many previous first round picks...

Because he is primarily a special teams player. Sure, he has added value now that he played in the gimmicky wildcat offense, and did so pretty solidly, but no team is willing (unless they are insane) to give up a first round pick just to get a guy thats good in special teams. Good football teams have been able to win without having great special teams play. See Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, etc.

Ya I'd be pissed, I'd love to get Suh but that aint gona happen. We need a stud linebacker, corners, Qb, ends, right tackle, WR other than that we're good

You did list a WR in the team's needs...Or did you mean in that order?...

To be honest, we don't know what Cribbs' value is to other teams. It's unfair to him, at this point, to say that he's not worth a first rounder.

Expect the unexpected. Remember, AJ Feely was traded for a high 2nd round a few years back, and he was just a project at QB. Cribbs is a proven utility player, that has been consistent every season in the NFL.
