Any users out there wanna give a pro cons list about this.

I was browsing cydia and i really liked some of the things I saw. Also I think I could get more mileage out of the phone if I jailbroke, specifically Google Voice app.

suggestions? warnings?

If you jail break it the warranty is void. Not sure how old your phone is, but my first iPhone was only five months old and I started having problems. I went to the Apple store at Easton and they looked at it, then handed me a brand new phone. Not sure I'd want to give up that protection.

The obvious con being that it voids your warranty and Apple won't touch it if it's been jailbroken.
If you do it, make sure you change your password from the default and check out www.iphonehacks.com for any other suggestions.

Same advice, If its under warranty i wouldn't mess with it, sister just had a leaking LCD screen on hers today, took it to ATT and it was replaced no questions. What were you wanting to achieve by the jailbreak?

I was wanting to achieve the coveted status of having fellow iphoners be jealous at how cool my phone looks compared to theirs.

If we are being honest.

as far as the warranty goes, I got a new iphone a couple weeks back. This one should be good for a while, I have had the iphone since Oct 08. So accdg to my apple care, it expires in Oct 10

i was thinking more of backgrounds for the SMS, and for the homescreen
also changing the default start page on safari. Annoying little things that drive me up the wall
Google Voice, Wave, also background apps

OK, dumb question here. What does it mean to "jailbreak" a phone?

I have a jailbroken iPod touch and LOVE it. The customization you can achieve with it is amazing.. I'm talking complete overhaul of the UI, not just wallpapers..

Plus the limitless number of apps...

It only voids your warranty if Apple knows you jailbroke it, which would be hard to find out unless you took it to them jailbroken.. You can always "un" jailbreak it if you need service done, unless of course it bricks during the process, which isn't likely...

should have done a backup of my phone immediately prior to jailbreaking. Lost a month of texts and stuff. Oh well. Thankfully my contacts and all that are synced with address book.

totally customized the phone already. Added cycorder to my 3g. Enabled GVoice, and winterboard. Winterboard is awesome, added backgrounds to the SMS field, a background to the home screens, and found a cool theme (trichrome) that redid the icons and the springboard.

I am really liking the change.

I made my iPod Touch home screen look like a Mac OS X desktop.. Complete with folders, it looks REALLY nice..

I did the Vista change a week ago, it took some work but was worth it.. However, I didn't feel right having the name and look of Vista on something so beautiful :)

Thanks I would really like to see how different the jailbroke Itouch is. But I will only do it if there is a tool to take it back to normal. My friend just had her Iphone jailbroke and it froze up 2 days later and she had to unbrick it.
