So who will be the top 4 in Week 1 of this?

Where will teams like Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Notre Dame fall?

My guess:

1. Georgia
2. Bama
3. OSU
4. Clemson
5. ND
6. Oklahoma

I think Penn State just crushed themselves but way too early to omit such a high ranking team.

Wisconsin and Miami will definitely have their chances

I think it goes like this for a top 10.

1. Georgia
2. Alabama
3. Notre Dame
4. Clemson
5. Ohio State
6. Oklahoma
7. Wisconsin
8. Penn State
9. Miami
10. TCU

And the immediate crying for the Sooners begins...

Laley, why do you think Clemson would be 4 with a bad loss to Syracuse?

They have wins over Auburn and Virginia Tech(At VT as well), and the committee cares more about who you beat than who you lost to. I think Clemson will be top 4 as well.

We have definitely learned it doesn't matter who you lose to. It only matters who you beat. I could see OSU at 4 and Clemson 5 as well.

OSU will not be in the top 4, but they will be if they win out and that is all that matters

Those would be my top 4 but I'd have OSU at 4 & ND at 3.

I say it'll be this tonight...

1. Georgia
2. Alabama
3. Clemson
4. Notre Dame
5. Oklahoma
6. Ohio State

Clemson will be rewarded for having like 6 wins over teams with a winning record, especially the wins over VT and Auburn. They do have a bad loss, but I think we've seen before that losses are forgiven to an extent, provided that you also have good wins.

Notre Dame also has several good wins over USC, NC State, and MSU. Their only loss is to the current #1/#2 team by one point.

Oklahoma hasn't looked very good lately, but they do have what could be considered the best win this season on the road at Ohio State. The loss to Iowa State looks better now than when it happened.

The Buckeyes have a great win against Penn State, but not much else on their resume at this point. Since they have one loss, and so does Oklahoma, I think the head-to-head matchup will give the Sooners the nod.

If Ohio State wins out, I think they will be fine. Their resume would then have wins over PSU, MSU, Iowa, UM, and Wisc, and I really doubt that Oklahoma runs the table. I think the PAC12 is out unless Washington runs the table and then gets teams in front of them to falter. The loser of the SEC Championship isn't finishing ahead of OSU if they both have one loss and OSU is a conference champion.

If what Laley points out is true (which has proven to have been the case), and Georgia beats Bama in the SEC ship, then who will they have beaten that's more impressive than OSU beating PSU, MSU and ttun?

Yep, exactly. Alabama would have wins over Auburn, LSU, and Miss State. To me, that does not trump PSU, MSU, UM, Wisc. They also would not be a conference champion, which is something that the committee does value.

Notre Dame SHOULD get left out if they win out. And Clemson, OSU, Oklahoma all win out.

ND is in if they win out. Toughest schedule in America where only loss is by 1 to #1 Georgia...they need to lose again

And at least 3 unforeseen upsets will shake up these predictions...hopefully OSU not a part of any of these

I don't get the fasciation with Clemson. Are they really getting credit because they beat Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Boston College? Who cares that they have a winning record?

Auburn and Louisville aren't great wins anymore. @ VT is their good win. OSU's is Penn State, and OU's is @ OSU. Clemson should be 6th, imo.

itt: pointless debate that will sort itself out as the season progresses

what will be interesting is if ND wins out and sits idle during conference championship week. Do they get leaped by someone with that extra game under their belt?
