Rece Davis just used ESPN's FPI as a major factor for why USC's resume is better than that of Ohio State.
Ohio State is currently #2 in their FPI, while USC is #17.

USC has one win over the CFP Top 25, while OSU has two. Ohio State has a worse loss than USC, but both teams were blown out on the road. I would think their resumes are fairly equal, but don't go claiming that USC has more wins over teams ranked in your horseshit FPI, and then fail to mention that Ohio State is ranked higher than USC in that very same ranking system.

Messing again with the numbers at 538, the most important thing for Ohio State is that Alabama wins out and takes Georgia and Auburn off the table. If Alabama loses, the SEC will get two teams in.

ND just almost lost to navy. OSU just beat Michigan State by 40. I think how you’re playing right now plays a big part of these rankings. And I also think OSU has better wins than ND does and the committe always puts more emphasis on your wins vs your losses.

I guess we just disagree on better wins. ND smoked MSU on the road, but yes, it was weeks ago. I would say beating Army is OSU's third best win. Indiana sucks. And Army is 8-3, meanwhile NC State is 7-4.

Alabama wins out, Miami wins out, Oklahoma wins out, OSU wins out...there's your final four. FWIW, I don't think the committee will put two SEC teams in, regardless of whether or not Bama loses. So if we go that route, I'll give you army as 3rd best. Unfortunately, Navy is ahead in all those rankings so that gives ND another win better. An NCST? Really? They are gonna be top 30 everywhere I look, I'd guarantee it.
And if each win Saturday, Stanford is ahead of UofM...and will be on the road. I just don't see this resume being better thing you guys do. A blowout of Wisconsin would alter that, but until that (maybe) happens, ND will likely continue to (rightly) be ranked higher.

I just don’t think a team should be able to get blown out in one week and then barely beat a bad team the next week and not expect to fall. The committee puts more emphasis on how you’re playing RIGHT NOW rather than your overall resume.

If that is your argument, I won't disagree. But when people say the resume is better for OSU, I just don't think that is true at all. For the record, neither of these teams deserve to be in the playoff. Whether right or wrong, the committee stated it puts the emphasis more on the wins than on the losses. IMHO there is no way any team should get in without winning their conference. There are only 4 spots, so if you put 2 teams in from the same conference you're leaving out two conference champs. I can almost concede a spot to Notre dame, but there is no way imho someone who didn't win (or in the case of OSU last year even play for) their conference championship should be in.

I have a hard time buying the “improvement” argument for OSU when their second loss came in the 2nd half of the season and it was a blow out from a 6-5 team. If it were one of those close upset losses I could somewhat understand. Iowa is a tough place to play. It wasn’t though, so currently I would have several teams in over OSU for that 4th spot depending on how things play out the next two weeks.

That might be true, but do you really think a one loss Alabama (to a top 4 Auburn) won't be ranked ahead of a two loss OSU (blowout losses to Oklahoma and unranked Iowa)? If osu wins by 30+ in their last 4 games, 3 of those coming against ranked opponents, then the argument can be made that they improved and are playing as good as anyone. And if a few things fall into place they could sneak into the playoffs.

I don't mean this year. I mean in general. If there are 4 slots and 5 power conferences i don't want 2 teams from the same conference. Committee already saying Miami won’t drop much as Miami used their backup QB and it was in Heinz Field and the Steelers are pretty good this year.
