I agree. A penalty sure but have seen way worse hits. Flacco could have gone for the slide earlier. It is not fair if the off limit who's are able to maximize their yards gained and slide at the last minute and still get the penalty. There should be some accountability for not sliding earlier cuz you want more yardage.iclfan2;1878950 wrote:Call me crazy but I don’t know how you slow down a full speed Alonso at a full speed qb going for a first down who then suddenly pulls up and starts sliding. How does Alonso get out of the way? I’m ok with the penalty, but don’t think it was malicious or “dirty”.

Agree with this. Fuck Joe Flacco and his derpy ass for not sliding earlier.mhs95_06;1878947 wrote:I think it is too gray an area of what constitutes a legal give up, and where the ball is spotted when it is legal. The quarterback shouldn't be allowed to be going full speed into a high risk Rea with a lot to gain with each foot of ground he gets, like a 1st down, and just drop down, and not expect to be hit. I think on that play, as late as Flacco went down he should not expect to be hit. I agree that the defender could have avoided the punishing hit on the QB. With a properly written rule and official's interpretation, I think that play should have been ruled as penalty on the QB for inappropriate " giving up" , and a penalty on the defense for unnecessary roughness and the net result of the play should not be a first down or an ejection. Furthermore, I think if the defender would have not have hit them the officials probably would have ruled it a first down. Maybe they should spot the ball on "give ups" maybe a yard back from where it would have been, just as a cost of bailing out on playing football the way it was meant to be.

Personally think boring ass games are much more to blame for slumping ratings...friendfromlowry;1878946 wrote:This game fucking sucks.
Compare to College Football...I never get interested in NFL games that aren't my team to the point where it is must-see-tv but am always interested in watching top-ten teams.
Maybe it is because I know the Browns have no shot at the Playoffs lol.

Just looked at the score from last nights game. This has been a really weird season so far.

Guys, Flacco was almost done with slide and Alonso was 4-5 yards away still. It look late when it happened live.

I had a breakdown earlier on why I think the ratings are down. I anointed myself THE NFL expert, so this is 100% correct.BoatShoes;1878969 wrote:Personally think boring ass games are much more to blame for slumping ratings...

Also, I am taking the unpopular view that Kiko's hit wasn't as malicious as some of you all are making it out to be. Bill Cowher and Deion seem to agree. In terms of malicious intent, I have seen far worse THIS season, let alone the last 5 years.
Flacco was trying his hardest to get the fist down and thus he slid later than he should have. Kiko was trying his hardest to prevent a first down. It seemed to me they were simultaneously beginning their "collide," and you can tell Kiko turns his shoulder. If this didn't turn into a 40-0 blowout, this play could some hurrahs during film session for the Dolphins. Hell it still might. I wouldn't want my players defense easing up and handing first downs.
I think you also have to look at the player. I could be wrong, but I don't recall Kiko having a history of malicious intent like Vontaze.

It’s not the dirtiest hit we’ve ever seen, but it was still pretty bad. I’m sure it wasn’t Kiko being a POS he just fucked up and hit a QB during a “give up” slide which is just a no-no.

With the speed of the game, I just have a hard time blaming these guys sometimes. You can make everyone out to be a villain with slow-mo. I also don't blame Harbaugh for getting in Kiko's face. Fuck the Ravens, but it would be nice to have a coach that would do that for the Browns.SportsAndLady;1878978 wrote:It’s not the dirtiest hit we’ve ever seen, but it was still pretty bad. Intent wasn't there to injure, as he didn't lead with head or anything. But that was very late and I thought so live. He was a good 4-5 yards away when Flacco was almost done with the slide. These are world class athletes with insane reflexes. He could've jumped over or pulled up in that amount of time.

So, he wasn't almost done sliding when kiko was 5 yard away, but clearly was sliding at the point. Still think he had plenty of time to abort.

Like i said, slo-mo and screenshots can make it look worse than it is. It doesn't do it justice imo. I have watched the replay on full speed. I am just not seeing the same argument as some of you guys. if I am a coach I am ok with it, because I rather have my guys trying to make a play.Laley23;1878993 wrote:

Agree. Watching this play as it happened I jumped off the couch with my jaw dropped hoping a guy I don’t care for and playing for a team I despise was going to be ok. The video doesn’t show what I saw.like_that;1878979 wrote:With the speed of the game, I just have a hard time blaming these guys sometimes. You can make everyone out to be a villain with slow-mo. After watching several times I believe Flacco was not able to see Kiko coming. Flacco going as fast as I can ever remember and having to watch for 11 potential guys to get him. The defender looking for ball carrier and potential blockers. Kiko may not have had a clear view of when Flacco began his slide.
I do not believe Kiko’s hit was as malicious as what I watched live. Live play truly scared me as a viewer for Flacco. I believe Kiko had just enough time to let up some.

Not that I wish anything bad on Flacco but the Rats are going to need to start looking for his replacement, as soon as this draft. Signed him to that huge contract and he's been extremely underwhelming. Think he's only above Kizer in QBR (for qualifying QB's) and, since 2015, think he's averaged over an INT per game.

Agreed. Like everyone else, I have friends/family members that are big football fans. No one GAF about the kneeling. I said this a couple the weeks ago but the injuries are killing games. Last night was a great example. "Oh boy! Matt Moore vs Joe Flacco/Ryan Mallett!"BoatShoes;1878969 wrote:Personally think boring ass games are much more to blame for slumping ratings...

I'm too lazy to look it up but hasn't he had problems with concussions before? Last night's hit should count for like three of them.BR1986FB;1879002 wrote:Not that I wish anything bad on Flacco but the Rats are going to need to start looking for his replacement, as soon as this draft. Buffalo is trading DT Marcell Dareus to Jacksonville, sources tell ESPN. Dareus being reunited with HC Doug Marrone.

I think this happens a lot. If Flacco continues running for the first down, Kiko can't go higher where he might get hit with helmet-to-helmet. So he lowers his target, and then a late slide puts him in an ugly strike zone.like_that;1878977 wrote: Flacco was trying his hardest to get the fist down and thus he slid later than he should have. And you do see QB's sometimes take advantage of a defender letting up expecting a slide. It's a football play. I don't think a QB should be able to create a penalty (or fine) with a late slide.

I think injuries is just one of many factors (no, not kneeling). And a lot of that stems from the tacit tolerance of PED use (which I'll bet also contributes to CTE). But the NFL wants its freakish athletes, with little regard for how PED use leads to more frequent and more severe injuries.friendfromlowry;1879016 wrote:Agreed. The latter happened earlier this season, I think. I read a Yahoo column that noted that someone (Wentz, I think) faked a slide and then ran for more yardage. Column was basically saying that due to the current rules, ALL the onus to keep the QB safe is on the defensive player, while the QB can do virtually anything, making the rule very unfair to defensive players.gut;1879031 wrote:I think this happens a lot.
