I can't believe what Bannon said to that reporter. Nevermind undermining the Administration, I wonder if he didn't disclose classified material. Certainly it was damaging to national security interests.

If he's not fired for this, then there must be a strategic reason for these comments....but I have no idea what that would be.

I doubt he gets fired. If he was, it would have happened already.
I have no real idea why he spoke to such a liberal publication. My only guess is he want to throw some meat to the libs to continue his draw for identity politics.

His North Korean comments were correct and the shocking part to me. Like holy cow, someone actually says it and admits we are in a deterrence relationship with them. Were they classified, I don't think so...but he did push the line.
His comments on trader were interesting and a reveal on how he is working behind the scenes.

I don't think that was really a secret to anyone (including NK), although to say such a thing publicly is rare. But I'm not sure deterrence and military action are necessarily mutually exclusive....and what was shocking to me is he took the threat of any military action - readiness, actually - off the table.

Although I'm not sure anyone anywhere outside the liberal media takes Trump seriously, it was definitely a blow to Trump's international credibility. To me this was different from his usual verbal and mental diarrhea The comments basically turned Trump's "red line" success into an Obama-like failure, in that in both cases that red line didn't really exist.

But, yeah, he hasn't been fired even despite all the rumors BEFORE these comments. Which means there was probably a strategic reason behind this and not some lone-wolf moment. So what was the strategic purpose? Back channel from China saying they really had to walk back the aggressive tone, and Trump and "his" generals can't knee-cap themselves so Bannon draws the short straw?

As far as choosing such a liberal publication, I don't think it was to stir the identity politics pot (I don't think he said anything in that regard?). My guess is an expectation of quid pro quo for such a scoop - so they have a liberal source now that will have to play ball if they want continued access.

Another strategic aspect is it puts China trade and economic policy back on the forefront, which was a Trump campaign promise.

I get that, but I doubt Trump has any international credibility anymore. I think allies are more likely to listen more to Tillerson and Mattis than Trump. I don't think the ROK, Japan, or China took Trumps words too seriously.
Why he mentioned it, I have no clue either. Scratching my head on that one.
Bannon did state that as long as the D's play identity politics, Trump will exploit that and continue to do well.

Also, looks like we both are wrong and as Drudge reports and now the NYT, Bannon is out.
I'm sure he will still have Trump's ear in some fashion.

I'm not so sure. One theory I saw, which is probably accurate if he is out, was Bannon said those things because he knew he was going to be fired. Whether out of spite or he needed to get it off his chest, or both. I doubt he will have Trump's ear after violating the Trump's #1 golden rule, which is loyalty.

Like I said, it will be interesting to see if Breitbart turns on Trump now, if anyone can actually tolerate reading that site. Although I'm guessing Bannon won't let personal issues get in the way of profit.

I now have no idea how Bannon will react and how Brietbart will play this.

Man, I will say, it is pretty remarkable about how many high level people have left the White House just 7 months in.

Normally, those departures occur during the second half of the term, just less than seven months in...

And we're barely 6 months into the first year! Trump will never be able to staff an administration for a second term (if he even makes it to the end of the first).

He'll probably end up being replaced with another body from Goldman Sachs...so all the Hillary voters should be tickled.

Maybe Bannon just wanted to be with the Mooch.

I just realized something....Since Trump was elected, Breitbart views have TRIPLED, and I bet this is going to lead to another sizeable increase, especially if they start going after establishment Repubs (because then both the alt-right AND liberals will enjoy reading).
