This is apparently going to be a thing.

Naturally, they make it sound like it's going to be for the purpose of fighting radical extremist terrorism. However, reading the official description, it just sounds far too much like the Ministry of Truth, from Orwell's 1984.

It is said in the actual signed bill that it "shall lead the coordination, integration, and synchronization of Government-wide communications activities directed at foreign audiences abroad in order to counter the messaging and diminish the influence of international terrorist organizations."

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like a propaganda machine?

Propaganda is distinct from truth. So I don't know. They're not censoring (and probably can't), which is good.

I think this or something similar actually started under Obama, and apparently had some success. It makes sense. Although if you look at the echo chambers in the US and how hard it is to breakthru either side, maybe it's completely futile.

We can't fix the stupid and ignorant here....how are we going to do it in the caves of Afghanistan?
