He's likely not going to hit 500 homers or get 3000 hits, but it's probably fair to say that Trout, Harper, Pujols and Cabrera from this era are all going to easily make the Hall of Fame.

If he played for Detroit I'd probably say yes. Huge hit to his resume IMO

The HOF isn't anything special any more. You get IF you are a better player in your era. It didn't used to be that way. You only got in if you actually held up in different eras.

Just gotta finish out his career. He'll need some counting stats but they won't have to be the standard 3,000 hits 500 HR ....but he has to have enough longevity to get near 400 HR and 2500 hits.

May go down as the best pure overall hitter of the era, but yes, one-dimensional and kind of an ass.

Joey's skills will age pretty well. I think he gets in barring major injury.

As it stands right now? I will have to say no. We need to see his career play out, before having this discussion. Comparing him to Cabrera and Pujols is quite the reach though. He is nowhere near as good as those two.

Also factor in the baseball HOF is petty as fuck and correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't Votto made some journalists butt hurt for rubbing them the wrong way?

How many MVPs aren't in the HOF? I'm sure it's pretty high, but just curious. I doubt many multiple MVP winners are on the outside, however.

Pujols is a lock. Miguel Cabrera is a lock. Trout is pretty much a lock and he's only in his 6th full season. ARod should be a lock, we'll see what the voters think. Bonds should definitely be in. A case could be made for both Gonzalez and Murphy.

Bonds really doesn't even count lol. Gonzalez would be very close as well, sans steriods.

Maris doesn't really have a case. Too short of a career and only a few great.

I could see Vottos power numbers ending up similar it's Murphy...who I think should probably be in.

He doesn't have the power of Pujols or Cabrera and Votto probably finishes around like 350-400 HR's, but as a pure hitter, he's possibly the best overall in the era when you consider his eye, walks, power, average, slugging, etc.

Not many .310+/.420+ players who did it for 15 years are not in the HOF. In fact, I'd ask for someone to find one in the modern era who isn't suspected of PED's. All the guys mentioned earlier, Murphy, Gonzalez, they don't touch Votto as an overall hitter. They simply hit more homers.

Averages almost 1 walk per 5 plate appearances. Almost unheard of today. Barry Bonds was just under 1 BB for every 5 PA and that includes his insane BB seasons.

Murphy was great defensive OF and very good base runner as well. Career went downhill quickly....

Votto right now is 4 years older than Paul Goldschmidt....Goldschmidt on his career path minus about 3 seasons of stats. As Votto continues on and ages I think he needs to stay ahead of Goldschmidts career too.

Joey has mastered the art of getting on base....many many times it has been with pitchers simply pitching around him with 2 outs and sub stellar players behind him....often with runners on also. I know getting on base is the most important part of scoring runs but in a game where the average player reaches base 1/3 of the time....stringing together enough of those to score is often tough...especially with 2 outs and/or no one on....the fact that he is a terrible base runner and clogs them up adds some more to this thought.

No way to know but would love to go back in his career with RISP and see outcomes with his abilities and him being aggressive to drive in runs knowing crap was hitting behind him.....Miguel Cabrera/Manny Ramirez like...not Vlad like.
