DAMN!

I mean, initially, that would feel cool, but I would imagine that it gets hard some days.

Haha no. I haven't done cardio since high school, with the exception of an hour or two of basketball each week. Metabolism just hasn't slowed down since I was a teenager. Now that I can afford food it isn't so much of a problem, but I do drop about 5 pounds a week if I get too busy to eat that much.

Hard to imagine eating 4,000 calories multiple days in a row. 5,500 is silly.

That's nuts. I can't imagine eating that much in a day without training for something. Everyday? I honestly think it would kill me

6'2" 180. Every day. Twice in the last three years I've had to cut to about 3000 calories for a month and I dropped to 155 both times. Then takes 3 months to get back up to 180.

If you need 5,500 to maintain....how much did you have to eat to gain back the 25 lbs over 3 months? 7,000?

I figured you were tall if you had to eat that many calories to maintain weight. 180 is still pretty light for someone who is 6'2 lol. I have a buddy who is just like you and has to do the same. It's a blessing and curse at the same time I assume.

I didn't count but it was a ton. Essentially 5 full meals a day, plus all my usually snacks and calorie shake.

It used to be a lot of work when I was in undergrad but I'm so used to it know that I don't mind. I'm able to keep the weight I do have in the areas where I want it, just have very little body fat. I definitely prefer it to the other end of the spectrum. I really enjoy eating so I hope when my metabolism does slow down it isn't too drastic. I also don't really pay much mind to eating the healthiest food, because I only look at calories most of the time. I'm guessing it will catch up to me in the form of hypertension or hyperlipidemia at some point unless I make more of an effort in that regard.

Your lunch wasn't too bad though as far as healthy. Not like you are eating a double quarter pounder super size meal with a coke and 2 apple pies.....you're just doing that many calories.

Probably an obvious question, but have you talked to your doctor about this? 5,500 a day is absolutely insane for a non-athlete.

Yeah, is there some sort of underlying condition to explain eating 2x as much as the average person other than your metabolism hasn't slowed down - to the point you significantly drop weight if for not eating so much.

What athletes would need that many calories? Long distance swimmers? Ironman competition athletes?

I don't even know.

How much do in season NBA guys consume I wonder? I'm interested.

Yeah. They did a full metabolic and heme workup about 4 years ago when it was actually a burden for me. All of my labs are stone cold normal. Nothing identified over the course of about 4 months.
