At this point the political forum is just trolls and fake news to the point that having a relevant political discussion is impossible. I think if users were properly informed that its a Fox News/Breibart/Infowars fake news circle jerk by people who think America is destined for greatest like we were when black people were slaves, the forum would be better off. I'm all for free speech but for the sake of civility it's important for users to understand when truth and reality is being ignored because it doesn't fit the right's regressive agenda.

I propose a new forum titled "Reality" where like minded users can go post truth and facts like climate change, the Russian involvement in our political system, and the acknowledgement of deceit from this current administration.

Thoughts? Where does the OC stand on truth vs. fiction?

I think most people who look at the political forum on here already know all this. I have never been under the illusion that there is an actual political debate going on there. It is mostly right wing breitbart-types posting right wing propoganda and changing no minds; and then a few liberals like Isadore trying to be shocking and also not changing minds.

Sleeper, I haven't been on here a lot lately. But didn't you used to be pretty conservative? I seem to remember your themes being your high income, your disdain for poor people and your views on black people. What changed?

Am I the one that finds it ironic that sleeper is complaining about trolls and fake information?

Agreed on the first point. That's why I proposed what I proposed.

Nothing really changed. I criticized Obama as much as anyone on here but I think he was ultimately a good President. As far as the poor people/black people stuff, nothing has really changed there either but I still think we should practice empathy for those in unfortunate situations, no matter the cause.

Only like two people post things from Fox and Breitbart. Most of the rest, I think, identify as or closer to libertarian. But in this day and age, if you don't advocate big gubmit making it illegal to be an asshat, then you are labeled a right-winger.

Declaring "not my president" is nonsensical. If you are an American citizen, then Obama was, and Trump is your president. Saying they are "not mine" is like a 7 year old throwing a temper tantrum. If you don't want whoever is in office to be your president, then your option is to renounce your citizenship and leave.

Yeah it really is childish regardless of who is in office. I wasn't even close to being an Obama fan, and I thought it was stupid as hell to hear anyone say that.

Let's focus on the petition. Seems like most people here agree that the forum is being overrun by fake news trolls so why would we give it the distinguished platform called "Politics"?

I'm open to other solutions of course.

I wouldn't really call them "fake news trolls". More like party-line tools who believe anything they hear as long as it suits their narrative, while going pure snowflake the instant anyone attempts to push a different narrative.

The key being that they actually believe their right wing blog nonsense, as opposed to just posting it to be provocative.

And "distinguished platform"? What's so distinguished about a bunch of old, rich dudes making a bunch of rules so they can hold the keys to the car indefinitely while we squabble over which of the old rich dude parties is the one saying its in charge?
