Increase taxes on the wealthy and cut defense spending.
Problem solved.

Our only way out of this debt hole is strong economic growth, and obviously that would never happen with higher tax rates.
We could easily cut 15% of the entire budget tomorrow, and not miss a beat.
Unfortunately there are too many pussies in D.C.

Proves your first statement wrong, regardless of tax rates on rich over the last 7 or 8 decades, the tax revenue as a percentage of GDP has been relatively constant, between 15-20% depending on recession timing.
It is our spending that is out of control, your second statement is obviously part of that, as well as the other 2 major entitlement programs.
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FYONGDA188S
You can't consistently take in 15-20% and spend 20+% of GDP.
History shows us that almost regardless of tax rates that we consistently take in the same percent of GDP, we can control the spending though while we don't.

Yep. And regardless of debate about "trickle down economics" (which has become a rather deliberate perjorative), taxes DEFINITELY do "trickle down".jmog;1854615 wrote: History shows us that almost regardless of tax rates that we consistently take in the same percent of GDP, we can control the spending though while we don't.

Incredible. Lawless FBI.
Trump obviously made another great move by firing Comey.
Once the leakers get whacked this weekend, we can get on with the rest of the agenda.

That's because the tax code is loaded with loopholes. Raise tax rates and close the loopholes.jmog;1854615 wrote:https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FYFRGDA188S

Agreed on the second point. The biggest fraud and waste is in the DoD.

Disagree on raising taxes, but as stated before the DoD could reduce their budget significantly and still operate on all cylinders.sleeper;1855244 wrote:That's because the tax code is loaded with loopholes. Raise tax rates and close the loopholes.

LOL. Bought and sold so easily. You've been duped. On Monday, these workers were proven right. Though Trump struck a deal with Carrier promising them $7 million in local business incentives if they kept their Indianapolis plant open, the heating and cooling company warned that it would still outsource a number of Indiana jobs to Mexico, regardless. But the Trump campaign still championed the deal as a win for American workers. This week, the Carrier announced it will cut 632 jobs from its Indiana plant by the end of the year.

A company spokesperson, Michelle Caldwell, told us in a statement:
Notices provided last week are consistent with our previously announced plans regarding our Indianapolis facility. We continue to actively engage with our workers and the community to provide impacted employees with both the time and opportunity for a smooth transition.
That statement included a link to a 30 November 2016 announcement from Carrier trumpeting “very productive conversations” between the company and then-President-elect Donald Trump that would keep “more than 1,000 jobs” in Indiana. Trump also promoted the agreement.
However, since November, the company has backtracked on that estimate; on its Twitter account, the companyrevised “more than 1,000 jobs” to “close to 1,000 jobs”; and it admitted that its initial figure included 300 administrative positions at another location that were never in danger of being eliminated. In reality, only 800 of those positions were to be kept in Indiana.
Has nothing to do with Trump ......perhaps you should call the company.

Okay, well the reality is, Trump DID NOT save 1,100 as you claimed and took credit for. He once again, LIED to the American people and you bought it.QuakerOats;1855281 wrote:A company spokesperson, Michelle Caldwell, told us in a statement:
Notices provided last week are consistent with our previously announced plans regarding our Indianapolis facility. Indeed he did, Carrier was leaving, and right now they are not. 800 - 1,000 .................you pick the number. You obviously have never worked in manufacturing and have zero understanding of orders, production schedules, backlogs, fulfillment, supply chains, logistics, demand, and the multitude of variables associated with being competitive. If we can overcome the liberal/establishment obstruction in DC, we can achieve tax reform, complete regulatory reform, trade reform, and whack obamaKare; then the all-out assault on industry and capitalism will be defeated and all manufacturers like Carrier can once again prosper here, and live in peace.

What's stopping you? The GOP has the House, the Senate, and the White House and nothing is getting done. There is nothing to overcome; you already have the control you seek and Trump/GOP isn't doing anything.QuakerOats;1855288 wrote:Indeed he did, Carrier was leaving, and right now they are not. 800 - 1,000 .................you pick the number. Also, I am a consultant and I have worked in the manufacturing industry. This is of course irrelevant to the discussion at hand; the issue is you claimed credit for something that didn't end up happening, you were proven wrong, and because you are a partisan hack who's been brainwashed by Fox News, you TRIPLE DOWN on the failure. Enjoy your miserable life.

You're offended because 800 jobs were saved instead of 1,100; I get it. Maybe see a therapist for a month or two, and hope for the best.

Offended? No. Just find it hilariously you are so desperate for a Trump accomplishment that you'll LIE and then never follow up.QuakerOats;1855320 wrote:You're offended because 800 jobs were saved instead of 1,100; I get it. Maybe see a therapist for a month or two, and hope for the best.
BTW 1,100 - 632 is 468 "saved jobs" not 800. Math is hard. Trump didn't do shit either, he gave them $7M dollars to save 468 jobs. WOW. Such a joke.

The accomplishments abound, and he hasn't even started.
On the other hand, obama handed out $10 trillion, and has nothing to show for it. Spectacular math.
But ................................... Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia .................. classic

Unemployment numbers are out, only 138,000 jobs, rate is now 4.3%, but labor participation rate is down .2 to 62.7%.
So far Trump's economy looks a lot like Obama's....just meh.

I brought this up in the progressive thread. I don't recall many obama supporters bringing up the bolded when he was in office. So, if Trump was elected to improve the economy, it should be his barometer on how he is doing.

Have a tough time reconciling ADP's job number of 253,000 vs. govt's 138,000.

As they should. I just find it funny how both sides (including you apparently) are conveniently flipping scripts. I would say it's shocking, but it really is extremely predictable.ptown_trojans_1;1856316 wrote:No, but his opponents did.

I would never argue Obama's economy was great. I would say it was meh. He did well in 2099 and 2010, but after that, it was just ok overall. I did not pom pom for the great Obama economy the last few years.
Still, I agree that a metric for success for Trump should be the labor participation rate as well as the rise in wages. This should have and were metrics for Obama.

I agree with everything, except the bolded. Maybe it's because I am one of the few non liberals in DC, but nobody held Obama to those metrics. All I heard and read every month was how he keeps lowering the unemployment rate.ptown_trojans_1;1856322 wrote:I would never argue Obama's economy was great. I would say it was meh. Anyway, along with the metrics you mentioned I would also add the welfare rate. If that goes down (along with labor participation and wages going up), then I would actually start to believe. Until then, I call bullshit.

GDP growth @3.5% and all the employment stuff will follow.
I'd also like see something much less than $1T+ deficits.
