So you've lost out on the last month of the market?sleeper;1837514 wrote:Then you must have loved Obama because the stock market went up 300% from when Obama took office to when he left.
I made a ton of money off the Obama Presidency. I exited a majority of a my positions last month because I think we've peaked and people smarter than me are expecting a flat 2017 AT BEST case scenario and likely a trend towards recession.
I'll be buying once the market bottoms out again.
Got it.

S&P500 is up 50% from 10 years ago. Annualized, that is less than half its normal rate of return.

Using the stock market as an indicator of how a President is doing was dumb in the 90s, 2000s, early 2010s, and dumb now.
The market is too complex for the President to have much of an impact.
I would say the FED has more influence than Trump.
The lone exception was the crisis in 2008-2009.

If you're using this argument, it just means you're biased towards or against a political party.

Yes I have. Timing the market is often difficult but I invest long term as I plan on retiring before I hit the age of 40. Missing out on a few % increase is going to pay off because I believe the market will turn sometime this year. Instead of timing that perfectly, I'd rather exit now with substantial gains and stay in cash until I believe the market is less bloated.SportsAndLady;1837520 wrote:So you've lost out on the last month of the market?

You can't retire; obama swelled the food stamp rolls to a staggering 46 million people; they are depending on you.

I'm not even sure how much of an impact the Executive Office could have had in 2008-2009. Seems like the bulk of that was still the result of other entities.ptown_trojans_1;1837524 wrote:Using the stock market as an indicator of how a President is doing was dumb in the 90s, 2000s, early 2010s, and dumb now.

You should forego the taxes. Give to charities with the highest percentage going directly toward the cause. The help will go further.sleeper;1837561 wrote:I will still be paying taxes. No worries there.

ISIS suicide bombing at shrine in southern Pakistan kills at least 75, officials say, the same day ISIS car bombing in Baghdad kills 51.

No that's not how it works.QuakerOats;1837504 wrote:Before the crash in '09 there were about 8,000 public companies available to invest in, today there are about 3,400. Simple supply/demand says that more 'investable' dollars chasing far fewer companies is going to result in higher valuations
You only see PE's this high a year or two before and after recessions (when earnings are much lower).

We are going to do great things against ISIS. I mean really great. Lots of things, the best things. ISIS got strong because the previous administration was so weak. We are no longer weak. We are great again.

If that is the case, Trump better well make a damn good case for getting involved in the civil war and outline the exact objectives.
