She is just fine; hopefully she will shut down the department altogether.

No thanks. We need to raise the quality of education nationally not splinter it to whatever backward fuck belief the locals want to teach their kids.
Looks like the state actually already took care of this http://www.sciencealert.com/yes-alabama-public-schools-now-have-to-teach-evolution-and-climate-change. I am with you they shouldn't be teaching all that shit to begin with, but I don't think we need an entire department to prevent this from happening. Obviously if Alabama can take care of it themselves, I think other states can as well. You're not giving millennials enough credit and the change they are bringing. The fact of the matter is the Dep of Edu was established by Carter as a reward to the teachers union for backing him during the election. Other than a discrimination act or two I don't see how the department warrants a 77B budget. I already said we should cut DoD spending before anybody comes on here and tells that the Dep of Edu's budget is nothing compared to what we spend on defense! Nobody can look at our education from 1979 and say it has improved immensely since the Dep of Education was established. Also, is Alabama teaching creationism any worse than schools providing safe spaces and suppressing dissenting opinions? They are equally as terrible imo.

We elected a tantrum man-child Cheeto as President. It's downright embarrassing.

Hillary Clinton will never be president. I am sure there are 800 #'s you can call for counseling.

Predictable response.

Trump is infallible in your eyes. It's truly disturbing.

He is quite fallible. But so far, so good.

I seriously hope she shuts the DoE down, for the good of the children.

The question has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. Not sure why Republicans are still obsessed with deflecting everything to her.

Hail Trump!

Uhhh, I disagreed with ... "Alabama should be able to teach... bible study as part of its core curriculum and teachers should be able to teach with associate degrees in plumbing."

I agree it's not 1800s anymore. I don't want regressive thinking.

Not sure why you're dwelling on that point with me.

We have said all we need to say: looking forward to the Marxists being sent out to pasture tomorrow. Looking forward to getting this country back on the right path. The confidence and optimism (outside the liberal, urban group-think centers) has spiked to 15-year highs. The People have suffered plenty; it is their time.

Any instance of religious teaching in public schooling is regressive IMO. It should be out....all of it.

Doesn't want regressive thinking; supports Rick Santorum.

Betsy Davos sounds stupid in her hearing. Agreed. But trying to bring that up with the stupid article Ptown posted is dumb. Perry knew what position he was taking. That's a joke.

As for education, I probably lean more towards states being in charge. I also don't find the "school" issue as big as other people do. If you put shitty kids into my small town Ohio public high school they would still suck. Yet many others go on to good colleges and work in large companies. I don't blame teachers for kids being stupid, and don't think there is a one size fits all option to fix them. Throwing money at it is not the answer. Common core was also stupid.

The current system is broken. When a spanish only speaking student comes to your small town, they are put in whatever grade they should be in based on their age...regardless or their understanding of the english language AND our teachers are being forced to deal with it. I grade spelling tests for my wife who teaches third grade, 4 of the students have no clue AND they count towards her test scores. It's not the childs fault their parents illegally immigrated here, but it is the systems fault for setting them up to fail.

I never meant the system is perfect. Schools don't even teach basic finance ffs. Or how to get student loans smartly to not be in debt for 30 years. But what do you want the school to do? Find magic money in the budget to hire a Spanish speaking teacher for 10 kids?

Right because we should have states teach their children that women came from the rib of man.

Grow up. This isn't the 1800's anymore. You actually need to provide evidence to function in the real world.

The state of Alabama now requires to teach evolution and climate change. Which other states are you talking about and tell me why we need $77B yearly to change this? As i said earlier, I remember the old sleeper that wanted smaller government.
