From what I've gathered (finding a recent study or exact number is tricky for obvious reasons. However I do think it's safe to assume some percentage higher than 30% is a conservative estimate), roughly 40% of firearms sold or obtained (transfer/gift) in the united states far under this, IE NO BACKGROUND check.
