Haha, I hadn't really noticed. Now that you mention it, seems like Isadore hasn't been posting, either.
Yep. Dude asked to have his account deleted. Nobody quite obliged him that, but let's say he doesn't have access to it anymore.

What IS your point? An academic discussion on how not to do academic research?
After reading the back and forth (which I actually appreciated, since everyone stayed relatively even-keeled), I think his point was that while the overall bias of national media might be a matter of fact, it's probably not knowable unless we assume the metrics used to be objectively based and quantifiable, which may not be the case.

For the record, the national media definitely leans left overall, and I disagree with the right on probably 50% of its platform.

I was making a theoretical point as to the fact that proving something media bias is impossible. I was never arguing that there isn't bias. From my personal standpoint, I believe there is a great deal of bias, mostly toward the left. My point however was that the answer to the question of "Is there bias in the media?" can never be proven - that's all.

Dr Winston O'Boogie;1860333 wrote:I guess I haven't done a very good job of making my point. I used this chart for a reason. The chart shows a high percentage of conservatives think the media is biased toward liberals and that a lower percentage of liberals think the media is biased toward conservatives. Although this chart doesn't show it, I'll go a step further and assume that more people in general (across the entire population) think the media leans more left than right. Those things measure the opinions of people. So if you use them to say, "Factually proven, the media leans left", that would be untrue to whatever portion of the population sees it the opposite way - even if its a minority. A study that "proves" media bias is proof only to those who agree with its outcome. Those who do not would say that the study is wrong. Assuming there will always be significant numbers of people who are on both sides of this, no study then can ever be accepted at proof of anything.
So studies that show the number of positive vs negative stories by the media for X candidate vs Y candidate, when averaged over "all" races wouldn't count as proving just because some people wouldn't believe it?

It's that some people could disagree with what the study considers positive or negative stories.

Some people could disagree that the sky is blue. That doesn't make their opinion valid.

The color of the sky can be exactly measured with a scientific device by measuring solar radiation regardless of what anyone claims to see when the look up there. Media bias does not have a similar exactitude.

That may be true. Most all of us know media bias when we see it. That's different from someone saying it can be proveni.

I started reading it, but I realized I didn't have that much time, so I stopped before I got too far into it.

Gosh a ruddies, a Republican uses the exact right term to describe Trump and his supporters:
Over the weekend, Mr. McConnell made clear his unhappiness to the White House after a “super PAC” aligned with Mr. Trump started an ad campaign against Senator Dean Heller, Republican of Nevada, after he said last week that he opposed the health care bill.
The majority leader — already rankled by Mr. Trump’s tweets goading him to change Senate rules to scuttle Democratic filibusters — called the White House chief of staff, Reince Priebus, to complain that the attacks were “beyond stupid,” according to two Republicans with knowledge of the tense exchange.
….The move against Mr. Heller had the blessing of the White House, according to an official with America First, because Mr. Trump’s allies were furious that the senator would side with Nevada’s governor, Brian Sandoval, a Republican who accepted the Medicaid expansion under the health law and opposes the Republican overhaul, in criticizing the bill

McConnell told White House chief of staff Reince Priebus over the weekend that the group's attacks were "beyond stupid," according to a Republican with knowledge of the exchange. The person demanded anonymity to share the private conversation. McConnell allies argued that the approach alienated Heller and other Republicans rather than making it easier to get their votes
