Well, that's good to hear since they signed Morales and Pearce. How is Toronto still looking at him?Laley23;1828002 wrote:Apparently, EE down to Tribe and Jays, unless later suitor comes calling.

if that's the case the Tribe has only to to go bit further to land him.....but I suspect they won't.
I look for someone to come and swoop in at the last moment.
Rockies and Rangers are said to be lurking.

Rangers said they are out. Toronto GM has said he doesn't see a way to sign him. The longer this goes the better.

Ugh. It's hard to be negative after such a magical season, but it's starting to creep in. One thing I've always worries about with the Tribe front office, is that they are too inbred. By that I mean, the organization is staffed with people from within and they all think alike or have been taught/groomed to think a long the same lines....no other input from a different perspective.
John Hart...to Mark Shapiro....To Chris Antonetti...to Mike Chernoff. Not that it is all bad mind you. But this offseason is starting to smell a lot like 2008, where the Indians basically stood pat after a near miss at the World Series....content with their work, and their team. Of course, we know how that turned out.
Sure the team looks like it has a bright future, but the complacency bothers me. The Cubs don't seem to be resting on their laurels, neither do the Red Sox, and other teams are getting better (the Yankees). If the Indians want to be better and take the next step and actually WIN the WS, or just to increase their chances TO GET THEIR AGAIN...then they should identify the player that gives them the best chance to do that and go after them, rather than letting gravity dictate which 1Bman/DH "falls" to them.
Encarnacion would be a huge pickup....and he would solidify the position for years to come, considering that Carlos Santana will be a free agent next year. OR get one of the lesser priced guys out there (Carter)...and use the money to extend Santana if possible.
In any case, have a plan and go after it. I'm hoping they do, that they learned something from 2008, even if I don't see it yet.

I think that since both EE & Trumbo were tendered, they are going to get much less than they normally should since no team wants to give up their first round pick. Makes me think CLE will sign Carter to platoon against lefties.

I think the Tribe will end up with Napoli....Nobody seems interested in giving him a multi year deal. The problem with Nap one a one year deal, is that next year, the Tribe will be looking to replace both him AND Santana. I really would like to see them pick up a 1B/DH that'll be around for a couple of years.
For sure, one sticking point is the draft pick...I believe the Tribe is drafting mid 20's. If they give that up, their next pick isn't until the late 30's.

I'll be bitterly disappointed with Napoli. Loved him as a signing last year and he delivered this year. I see a major regression coming in 2017 though.

Somehow they can value the draft picks monetarily, the 25th pick is worth $10m to $16m.HitsRus;1829106 wrote: For sure, one sticking point is the draft pick...I believe the Tribe is drafting mid 20's. If they give that up, their next pick isn't until the late 30's.

Tribe busy filing in the periphery.....Acquires Nick Goody from the Yanks for future considerations(oh, Goody!)... and signed former Blue Jay 1Bman Chris Colabello to a minor league deal/spring training invite.(wrong Blue Jay 1Bman.)

And a Peds user (1st baseman). He's basically a minor leaguer who made it big for one year then got suspended.

Well, I was close!Laley23;1827828 wrote:Less. Just a gut feeling, but I think the Tribe has a shot here. The market is dwindling with so much power at the corners, and Yanks/Astros/Jays out of the bidding already.
Ill say, 4/90 gets it done.
3 at around $20M a year plus an option.

I still can't believe it, even though I was pretty confident we had a shot.
Healthy...this lineup is gonna be stacked and deep.

Wow have you seen that lineup! Haha seriously though take it from a Tigers fan, being the favorite is not easy. In 2014 they added Joe Nathan, Joakim Soria, David Price and got rid of Prince Fielder adding Ian Kinsler.Laley23;1829625 wrote:I still can't believe it, even though I was pretty confident we had a shot.

The Indians are absolutely loaded, but you never know how it's going to pan out

You still have to play 162 games. But this is huge news....Tribe looking at a 2-3 year window for championship.

I am stunned. The market failed EE, the Tribe stepped up at the right time and secured a huge star.

I like this pickup for two reasons:
1. Dolan finally realized now is the time to make a World Series push.
2. I will get to say Encarnacion for the next three years.

Can someone with more knowledge than me, project a typical healthy 1-9 for me? Also, assuming Nap's done and Santana becomes full-time 1B?

I like Santana's OB% higher in the order but Jose after him is good and 5th probably best.
IF Brantley comes back like he was....wow
