That's kinda a statement, not an opinion.

Damn, 7 days?

I would never go to someone's wedding if it cost me 7 days. Nothing wrong with you doing that, I just personally wouldn't take 5 vacation days to go to someone's wedding.

I agree, I probably wouldn't take more than 5 either, for even my closest friends. A couple guests left two days early or came three days late, but they still got the same daily rate and the wedding was day 4 so they didn't miss anything. We only had 19 guess and it was all pretty immediate family, with the exception of the best man and maid of honor. They had about a year's notice on the dates and could plan accordingly. I wouldn't have been offended if anyone didn't come. We had a less formal reception with plenty of alcohol a month later to celebrate with friends and family that didn't come. Also had zero wedding planning to do, which saved me a ton of headaches.

I went to one in Jamaica a few years ago. You could choose 3, 5, or 7. I went the full 7, it was fucking awesome.

7 is way too long for all inclusive though IMO. So. Much. Drinking.

I am in agreement with the wedding thing.

I think my wife and I got married in 2000 for like $4-5k...total. 300 people at the wedding and it was all fine. We were poor college kids that didn't want to wait to get married until we graduated.

Was still able to afford a honeymoon because the wedding was so cheap. We didn't have to pay for the church or reception (in the hall of the church) since we knew the pastor really well (we did 'tip' the church to help cover the costs of electricity, heat, etc). We didn't pay for the food as it was all made by family members. We didn't pay for a cake as one of our guests was a wedding cake decorator and made one for us as our wedding gift, etc.
As long as the food was good, an open bar, good music then it sounds like a good time.

Went on a 7 day wedding cruise in December of 2013 and it was the best time ever. Amazing wedding and celebration, plus a fantastic vacation all wrapped into one. It probably helped that there were 30 of us and we love spending time and vacationing together anyway.

Destination weddings are narcissistic. If you want to go someplace special to get married, that's your choice. Go there by yourselves and have at it. But don't force a bunch of people to use their hard-earned money to take a vacation that is all about you.

If you don't want to go, don't go. No one has ever forced me to go to any wedding, destination or otherwise.

Obviously no one forces you to go. However if it is a close friend or family member, it can be difficult not to go.

I didn't think the decision was hard at all. I love my friend, I wanted to see her get married, and I knew it would be a fantastic vacation. We went, we had the best week ever. If I had not had the money, I would have been bummed, but it would not have been the end of the world. My friends were not upset at the people who could not attend.

No it's not lol. Skipped my cousins wedding in California, skipped a good friends wedding in Costa Rica (would've been a groomsman), went to my wife's good friends wedding in Florida last week. None of those choices were hard, none of the people cared one way or the other.

Yeah, it's not difficult. I'm skipping my friends because the date doesn't work for me....and it's in Columbus.

I wasn't referring to your experience. I was giving my general and unpopular opinion, and not looking to get it fixed.

I concur. My brother and sister in law thought about having one at Virginia Beach where they were living but felt they were being self-absorbed and didnt want to put their friends and family behind the 8ball in deciding if and whom would be going.

Glad they decided to have it local so everyone could enjoy it. Was a freaking blast.

Poor people have lot of problems I assume. Examples include: poor food options, drafty windows, car breakdowns/no car, bad teeth, dirty clothes, poor reading light in the house, processed-instead-of-fresh-cut meat, poor road conditions in their neighborhood, possible illiteracy, bad television watching habits, cracked plaster walls, squeaky floorboards, broken steps on the front porch, broken tail lights, non-winning lottery tickets, dirty blankets, no Harper's subscription, weak bed springs, dusty closets, unregistered guns, troubled childhoods, outstanding warrants, holes in socks, crooked gates on front path chain link fences, mean dogs, faded tattoos, bad gas, impatience, collections agents, close-by liquor stores, muddy yards, etc.

There are others too.

U2 sucks

Willie Mays World Series catch was very good, nothing more

Rod Woodson greatest all-around CB of all-time

"Republican" and "Democrat" mean nothing anymore

I prefer slug% over on base % and FIP is very overrated

Tanking in baseball doesn't help

Monthly shaving kits are dumb

Everybody Loves Raymond...not funny at all

Working at McDonalds during college was enjoyable

Nothing is more important for a kid than good parents

Men are needed in elementary schools

Carlton Fisk and Kirk Gibson HR overrated, especially Fisk

It's ridiculous most of my friends have the same phone and similar tv's as multimillionaires
