LOL +1

People that know how to spend other people's money are sh**.... A man or a woman who earns their money has the right to spend it on whatever they see fit. If that happens to be a lavish wedding for themselves or their kids, that is their prerogative....your job is to enjoy it, not pass judgement on their intelligence.

That said, if you are going to have a reception, make it one that you can look back proudly on...one that makes a good memory for you and your guests. If you aren't going to throw a good reception, don't throw one at all. The reception is for your guests....don't insult them with some cheap ass affair after they give up their day and get dressed up and bring a wedding gift.
....and one other thing...when you are going to wedding, you go in a shirt and a tie and dress slacks (minimum), unless the invitation says specifically that the affair is casual.
This may be the most unpopular opinion on here judging by some of the other comments, but somebody has to educate you fu***** on basic social graces.

I agree with a one time party (reception) not being worth it or a lot for man's ring. At the same time, a reception shouldn't be obviously cheap though to your guests. Every time I see a guy with diamonds in his band I just want to laugh. I will disagree for the girl's engagement ring though. This is something she will wear every day and I think that should be eye popping (which I'm sure most women prefer as well), why not have it be something that is really nice, especially when you would likely never spend that much on any jewelry item the rest of your life?

I would never let the age of my kids dictate where our family goes on vacation. Even if they can't remember, doesn't mean they can't have a good time and in the moment really enjoy themselves. Memories are overrated, take some pictures and move on. While the kids won't remember the vacation, myself and my wife would remember it.

Bring back the military draft..... Every (every) American citizen able to service their country should spend two years of active duty and three reserves..

starting at the age of 10 years old and having passing grades in school to tryout for sports. Team sports are two options make the team or get cut from the team.

weapon safety should be taught in 9th grade to everyone.

sterilization of convicted felons ( high degree and multi offenders) is part of the punishment for committing the crime no matter of age, race, creed...

A lot of these aren't unpopular opinions. At least they aren't unpopular within this site lol.

How about for unpopular opinions for DC?

-The election should be a national holiday, so nobody has an excuse to not vote.

- senators, representatives, and justices should be on term limits.

-The day after the super bowl should also be a holiday.

The reality is these people will blame everything except themselves, the true cause of their own problems.

How to break the cycle? Hold parents accountable for their child's education. Kid fails a class? $100 fine. Can't afford the $100? Kids are taken away and put in a home that has responsible parents.

Everything else is just a waste of time.
I never understand why it's everyone else's fault but the parents. If there is one thing the government gives out for free, I wouldn't mind if it was free birth control. So sick of people having kids that have no business having kids.

same reason being anti-abortion is retarded. an overwhelming majority of those kids would be added to the welfare state... which most anti-abortion people are also against. irony is ironic.

I've honestly never heard this before. That's interesting. Maybe it just didn't resonate with me because I don't hold that view. Thanks for sharing it.

As a pro lifer I support society having a safety net.

Maybe a bit harsh to some, but here are a few things to ponder:
• Giving automatic citizenship to babies born in the US to non-US citizens should be abolished. "Anchor babies", as they are known by today, had it's usefulness when the USA was first starting and the need for more citizens was high. This practice has outlived its usefulness and needs to be terminated.
• Women on welfare, lose said welfare if they become pregnant, even if they abort the child (barring rape and incest).
• Persons on food stamps should only be allowed to purchase food items with the food stamps (EBT cards). Welfare grocery stores need to be created that will serve as the only location where food stamps/EBT cards can be used.
• Orphanages need to start being an option again.

I'm down with work for welfare programs. I'm also down with an orphanage option when parents are completely negligent, which there are a lot of them.

Didnt say I was against spending $$$ for a reception. I just said that it seemed like the more expensive ones I have been to were so stuffy and boring

Amen .............shirt. tie. dress slacks, and a sport coat - minimum; preferably a suit. Same with funerals; I can't believe the disrespect I see when morons show up in khakis and a bowling shirt. Get some God damn manners and respect.

I concur. ALthough some funerals do request other sort of apparel. Guy I know passed away last month and it was requested you wear the school attire, or Ohio state.

Something that really struck me so far from this thread. There are a few that I know from the Politics forum to be very right wing. I'm making a bit of an assumption here but typically those on the right supposedly support limited government. Yet we see things on their lists that if enacted would be some of the biggest government intrusions ever into the personal lives of citizens. You can be for limited government and you can support the government reaching into the lives of citizens both are well within your rights. You just can't be both.

ugh....being against abortion or any abomination is never retarded....using "the welfare state" to justify it is.

Most certainly, free birth control for those who can't afford it would be a great idea and a good compromise.
