There is no way that one of the games won't be at 9.

new Years Day is NFL Sunday this year...college football won't try to compete with that for viewership

When the Rose Bowl is a semifinal, the semifinals are New Year's Day. All other years, the semifinals are New Year's Eve.

I was wrong, too. Thought they would screw Washington for the weak OOC. But looking back, that was a stupid thought. They put Washington at 4, and THEN they blew out the #8 team in the country. They were basically a lock.

Good precedent set going forward. Something had to be said about not losing twice. Some years, 2 losses might give you a legit argument, but Penn State had the H2H/conference argument over OSU and SOS argument over Washington, and still didn't get in due to the second loss.

Agree with this. I think the committee got it right this year.

What we learned from the "committee":

The best way to make the 4 team format is to win your conference and go undefeated. To hedge that to give yourself a better chance to be chosen if you fail that is to schedule tough competition in non-conference and WIN, not just schedule it. If you lose non-conference games you are worse off than if you had never scheduled them.

I think this is a good message, and the individual schools have to choose years in advance to have hope or not if they happen to lose a game!

I'm seeing a lot of whining on social media about PSU.

I somewhat get their frustration, but maybe don't lose twice with one of those losses being by THIRTY NINE.

What really annoys me is people are comparing them to OSU. PSU was in contention with Washington, never OSU.

Fuck them, they were rewarded because of how the divisions lined up. If big ten gets rid divisions, PSU wouldn't have been in the conference championship. Their conference title gets an * in my eyes.

OSU is a top 4 team. There isn't a debate about OSU.

Washington is the weak shit team. I'd take PSU over Washington easily but I think the committee gave it to Washington because A) 1-loss, B) Blew the F out of #10 Colorado.

Also, no doubt in my mind OSU would beat PSU 99/100 this year. PSU beat OSU at home on two fluke plays, a blocked punt(rare for OSU) and a block FG(rare for OSU). When's the last time OSU had a blocked punt? When's the last time OSU had a blocked FG?

When's the last time OSU had both of those in 1 game much less 10 minutes apart? Answer? Never.

Thy still would have been in a championship game if they do top 2 teams. If not, it's a Baylor/TCU scenario.

Agreed. I think if that Michigan game would have been close, they probably would have gotten in over Washington. But the fact they got blown out made it easier on the committee

Exactly. Danny Kannel I usually like, but man he's been really annoying during this whole process. Saying conference winners should get in. You're telling me if VT or Fl wins those games, they should be in? No. It's a tie-breaker, having 2x as many losses as everyone else in the top 4 PLUS 1 of the losses by 39...not going to cut it. Contgrats on the Rose Bowl...don't embarrass the B1G

The discussion I heard this morning was something I have been saying ALL ALONG in regards of the playoff system.....if you are in a big 5 conference there is no reason to schedule up in the OOC. If you win your conference championship game, with a max of 1 loss, you are getting in. Now, if you dont win it like OSU, a strong resume helps

I think this playoff selection shows you both ends of the spectrum. It can help or doesn't matter. It helped OSU because they didn't win the conference yet their schedule was tough enough to get in. It didn't matter for Washington since they won their conference. Now, if Washington had 2 losses...and PSU had 2 losses. That's where you'd see it hurt them, since it was so weak. It also hurt OU to schedule us. If they had played Purde for example instead of us, and still lost to Houston. I think they'd have gotten in, or at least argued with Washington.
