I got a chance to see the Smithville-Chippewa game last night. Even got to bring a kid from my neighborhood to see what real, disciplined football looks like. He plays in a peewee league where coaches often quit, get into fights with other coaches (complete with lots of hood-style yelling, including F-bombs and calling each other derogatory names), and where fans are regularly smoking weed or blaring music that, at the very least, should be left to an issue of personal choice. Since it was the only football atmosphere he'd ever seen, I wanted him to see a different side of football.

I was fortunate enough to take him to what turned out to be a good game. Sloppy at times, and I obviously wish the outcome had been the other way around, but it was great to see him really get into it by the end. Actually said he would rather play at a school like the ones in the WCAL because of how the teams looked organized and the coaches looked like they care about the team.

Great gesture on your part! Mentoring at its finest. Is surreal to think about fans blaring music and/or doing drugs. Hopefully this young man can mature into a leader and responsible person for his team/community.

Actually this is a chance to throw a bone to all those involved in mentoring kids of all ages. Hats off. Its an un-thankable job, many times with little to no pay, (this includes coaches of all levels, everywhere).

I appreciate the kind words, beast. And believe me, he has the chops to be a good leader (and, frankly, a heck of a football player if we can figure something out about his attention span). Just needs some good direction and consistency.

Zuercher.

I said we have affordable housing for players, not a new Coach.

Nothing to gain with a new coach. It is what it is. Matt's a tenured teacher with a system in place. I can't see anything changing in the near future. Participation and talent are an issue that Belichik couldnt change or fix.

Edit: Although I DO think there is talent on this years team.

No such thing as tenure anymore, but I understand your thought.

Nice try, but I am correct. It's called a continuing contract. (Your official term) It is being phased out through ORC. In fact, if your initial license is after 2011, by law, you're unable to receive a continuing contract. Matt had his initial contract before that date and may very well have that continuing contract. If he hasn't received it, he may still be eligible if it is allowable through the teacher union contract. Most unions have given this up through negotiations though. I'm unsure of what is in the Waynedale contract though.

Is that understandable?

I'm thinking it is time for Matt to step down. If the future isn't very bright, last year's disappointment, and his second 0-10 season a few weeks away, why would he put himself and family through all this any further? It's sad to see it come to this, but it seems like everyone I talk to in the district wants to see a change.

Would Waynedale go after a new coach with no connection with the school or would they try and hire someone who has previously played or coached for the district you think?

Welcome back! No substance in your diatribe, just continued shenanigans. What exactly are you exposing? Everyone know Beast, I even have a few shirts with Beast on them, A few were mailed to me, embroidered by fello Chatterers! Good stuff!

A seasoned caoch will weather the storm and build. Just need to change a few things. Do some thing differently. He is our coach! I wouldnt want anyone else. 0-10 builds character and he'll rebound stronger than ever. We be back on top in no time!

I just wish wcalfan would either introduce himself, or GTFO these threads. Annoying is all he is. Im exposed now.

Edit: Open mats started today. Success is just around the corner.

I don't think AdSense likes people being exposed. They prefer all the naughties being covered up.

It would be a shame to see Zuercher go. The man still has a winning record, but I get that recent years have been rough for the program, and I wouldn't blame anyone for saying there should be a change.

Calling out coaches from neighboring communities?? You should look in your own backyard! Yours is once again proving I was right all along. Hearing from many in the community that the boys have quit on him again. What's the new excuse since the "we are playing teams twice our size" one is no longer? I will await your negative and non value added response.

You are definitely right about this. It is time for Orrville to take a deep look into finding a young, hungry coach from outside of the system to take over their football program. The administration has given the current coach every opportunity to succeed and it just isn't happening. There are young, qualified coaches out there that would be a big step up from what they have now. Dalton had close to 50 candidates for their opening last year. I would think Orrville would attract even more candidates than that. There are many coaches in that pool that will put a hungry, hard nosed, disciplined team that makes the community proud on the field every week. As was suggested above, there are no excuses anymore. Orrville has a freshmen team, they have athletes in the building, and they are playing schools their own size. Even better, they seem to have some good players coming up through the next few years. Hiring a good, young coach could have them right in the thick of things within a few years.

Thanks for seeing my point on this I've been saying it a while now. Deep down Doug Davault was not looking forward to this season because he could no longer use excuses. The PAC from top to bottom is arguably the worst conference in Ohio and he cannot hide his weaknesses any longer. Kids are laughing behind his back because he never has them prepared and just isn't a good head coach. Change is way overdue in Orrville and it's time for the so called supporters of the program to step up and help push him out.
