Anyone book or rent on here before. We just rented a condo in OTR for Bunbury. My in laws are thinking about renting their vacation home in crested butte, co and possibly their home during the republican national convention. I don't know anyone who has rented on there before and would enjoy hearing your experiences.

I've rented apartments in Chicago and Boston and had great experiences both times.

Rented an apartment in Istanbul last summer. Great decision. A lot better than a hotel imo.

Did it last month in New Orleans. It was great. Much better than a hotel.

I've done it a lot. It's the way to go compared to hotels, especially with 2+ people. You definitely "get what you pay" for and if it looks shady, shitty, etc. it most likely is. Go by the reviews.

We rented a place in Salt Lake City on a western trip through several states. Great place and very affordable.

A friend of mine has a brother who has a houseboat in Seattle. He rented his place out to a group of guys and they trashed it. I was told that he paid for some type of insurance plan that was offered, so the damages were covered and he was actually even able to increase the overall value of his place once it was fixed. I don't really know much about being the renter, but it sounds like you definitely wanna use whatever insurance plan is offered.

Family Business owned a B&B at Put-In-Bay and in its last year we rented it AirBnB and it was so much better than without.

Still hard for me to imagine renting my own personal home though. Went to a bachelor party in Nashville and stayed at an AirBnB place and sure enough somebody broke her doorknob, passed out in her shower with water running, etc.

Thinking about doing it for the RNC but will probably pass.

We had a bad experience trying to book a place in Alaska using AirBnB, so we never even include them in our decisions anymore. We have had great success with VRBO.

I've probably used it 35+ times and love it. Hotels can GFT.

Having to give personal info up front prior to booking, i.e. SS# CC#, etc. We eventually contacted the owner personally and were able to book the reservation and stay at the place at a reduced price since AirB&B was not getting their fee.

AirB&B creeped us out and made us feel like we were being scammed/having identity stolen.

*Probably the craziest they requested was wanting a scan of our driver's license!

Semi-related:

How far from Cleveland do you think people would be willing to rent a house for the RNC?

I think their neighbor was getting $1200 a night for their full house. I'm not sure how much AirBnB takes of that.

Did VRBO several years ago in Naples for my buddy's wedding. Definitely worth it.

We had 4 couples in a private condo. If I can, will be doing this more than hotels for longer stays and I can plan it in time.

1200 a night for a house in Ohio? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.

There's a few houses in their town trying to book their places for 6k a night. They are huge executive houses but yeah 6k a night is crazy and I would be shocked if they find someone willing to pay that.

This is a house a few street away from them and 30-45 minutes from Cleveland asking $1600 a night. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/10465985?s=39-uTkef

People with money will do it if the house fits their needs

This definitely seems like a nice house if you had 4 other couples traveling with you it'd only be $320 a night per couple so not bad a all.

Not sure why you're so flabbergasted by this. Nice house goes on air bnb during a weekend where people from all over the country will be coming to town. Wealthy people will spend $1,200 to stay at a nice house.
