I think it was a solid draft and its clear the Browns got their guys AND acquired quality draft picks in the future.

In my opinion, no doubt the Eagles will be picking the top 10 next year(and so will the Browns) giving us two quality impact players for next year. I hope this is a 3-4 year plan.
Kiper was right to pan the Browns draft...gave it a "C". The first part of it was gold....acquiring top talent and future high draft picks. The second part of it was a POS ... sacrificing quality for quantity. The trade down with the 75th (?)pick down to #93 to get an extra lower mid 4th round pick was a real head scratcher. The Browns took Kessler with #93. Had they resisted the urge to trade down again, they could have had Braxton Miller( a legitimate playmaker to go with Coleman) at 75....and then taken Kessler with their first pick in the 4th if he was so highly regarded. How much better the draft would have been if we had Miller versus the 2 "dime a dozen" extra WR we got as a result. More than likely, half those garbage round wideouts(or more) won't be on the opening roster.

Who gives a fuck what Kiper thinks? He is a Baltimore community college grad. He has given the browns good grades before and how did that pan out?

Kiper and old school guys hated it. The top anaylitics site loved it and said best draft of the league.

What that tells me, these guys had a plan, and nailed it. They got exactly who they wanted, and when. Now, we don't know if this style will work out, but that's irrelevant when judging the draft. They hit a home run for what they are trying to do and how they are judging talent. Now just have to hope the analytics approach is a good one.

I think Hit has a point. Taking Kessler, a career back up in the 3rd over guys like Miller or Billings seems like a mistake. The entire fourth round was pretty much shit IMO. Hope to be proven wrong.

Your premise relies on the theory that Braxton Miller will be a good NFL WR. Yes, he was a playmaker in college as a quarterback, but not last year as a WR.

Doesn't mean that he won't turn out to be...but at this point saying that "How much better the draft would have been if we had Miller versus the 2 "dime a dozen" extra WR we got as a result" is a stretch, IMO.

This is a new approach; not the conventional drafting style. Just because Mel Kiper thinks a player is a good/bad doesn't mean anything. The fact that we "reached" based on their standards is meaningless to me because its clear we came in with a plan to draft players based on some analytics and we got those players. That's all that matters.

Whether the analytics approach works or not is another story. It works in baseball but can it work in the NFL? I don't know.

I've read a lot of good things about Kessler. He may not be the QB of the future for the Browns but at least we didn't blow a high pick on him and its clear this is the QB they were targetting in this draft and they got him.

I think a lot of people forget that the draft is a lot more than just picking BPA based on consensus metrics. Sometimes you have to overreach on a pick because A) There is no trade available or B) You may not have a pick near where the player you want is actually valued. The draft should be defined by getting the players you wanted on your draft board closest to where you have them valued on the draft board. It doesn't always play out perfect.

I would be more interested to see the Browns actual draft board and how that panned out against the actual draft.

Yup...Braxton Miller not a playmaker as a WR.

That's college. He had a very meh year. Maybe he didn't get the ball enough, maybe he's just not good enough at that position. It's a very uncommon switch at that point in someone's football career.

He did have a few "wow" plays though....very few.

I don't see him doing much in the pros, but I hope I'm wrong.

One great play does not a playmaker make.

Yeah Braxton was pretty much non-existent except for that great game he had against VTech.

Didnt realize how bad it was until I looked at the numbers.

3 Games over 50 yards.
3 Games less than a 1 yard

2 Games with more than 2 catches.

I think Braxton will be just fine for the Texans. Especially with Hopkins and fuller also there.

Braxton miller is a major project at the receiver. Let's stop acting like he is the next Wes welker. I doubt he lasts 3 years in the NFL honestly

I'm more worried about Braxton away from the field than on it. Ever since yes declared for the draft, he's constantly posting pics in different cars, with all these fancy shoes, bags, clothes. Seems like he's spending at a level that's not very smart.

Brent Sobleski ‏@brentsobleski 20h20 hours ago Browns *potential* starting O-line:
LT - Thomas
LG - Bitonio
C - Erving
RG - Greco
RT - Coleman
All of them started at LT in college.

Interesting tidbit. BR thinks all are overrated.

I hope moving Erving to center makes him more comfortable and improves his production.
