If the initial reports are true and there are three well armed gunmen in body armor and a plan to escape the scene, this is not the act of some mentally ill individual with a gun.

Police are saying 14 dead and at least 14 others injured.

What we need is to have a discussion about this.sleeper;1767047 wrote:Then you will have someone come on and here and say "We need to do something about this!"

My daughter who works in the developmental disabled health field think this building was an administration, counselors, social workers and job shop type building.
Plenty of non developmental disabled individuals capable of protecting the innocent if provided with the proper training and equipment. Also if the proper training of staff members in terrorist attack procedures or a plan was in place more lives would be saved.
We as a society cant take attack like this without a plan, civilian support and training any longer.

We're talking California here... most likely an early solstice party or at best a holiday party. No way it was a Christmas party!majorspark;1767055 wrote:Reading reports that a Christmas party for county employees was going on at the time.

How would we go about this training? Who would pay for it? Who would be involved? What would qualify someone to undergo such training?Belly35;1767057 wrote:My daughter who works in the developmental disabled health field think this building was an administration, counselors, social workers and job shop type building.

IMO it's futile to discuss rational issues with an irrational person (see Pro Sports Forum, anything with Manziel and Footwedge). But by all means, continue, because his irrationality is entertaining lolAutomatik;1767059 wrote:How would we go about this training? Who would pay for it? Who would be involved? I was about to say that I didn't think belly would advocate to have persons with mental disabilities be armed. That said, it sounds like he knows a little more about it than I or even some (most?) here on the OC.
I do believe, like Belly, that an armed public is for the betterment of the community. These so-called "Gun-Free Zones" shout out to people who want to do harm that here is an easy target!
If there is the possibility that an armed citizen is around then there is the possibility that less harm may be done.

A good place to start may be have those who know teach those who don't? What a stupid question!Automatik;1767059 wrote:How would we go about this training?
How about starting by having those who want to get trained pay for it themselves? Why put the responsibility on others when you can, and should, do it yourself? or maybe you're having a case of the entitlement feelz?Automatik;1767059 wrote:Who would pay for it?
Anyone who wants to be assertive enough to take the personal initiative to want to protect him/herself and protect others!Automatik;1767059 wrote:Who would be involved? What would qualify someone to undergo such training?
Geez… almost sounds like you want the government to get involved in something you have the right to do yourself!

If there is the possibility that I am Santa Clause, then there is the possibility I will be giving you presents this Christmas.Apple;1767064 wrote:

Both statements are equally provable.

Why allow the possibility of an untrained person, still licensed to own and operate a gun, returning fire in a crowded area?
Learning how to use a gun is one thing. Learning how to accurately shoot under pressure is a completely different thing. I suppose to you and Belly though, there's no difference.

Sound like they stopped the car probably shot 1 in the car one outside the car and maybe 1 still running officer down as well. Sounds like a minor gun shot

The point of this post is to show that the narrative proffered by Apple is as equally provable as me proving I'm Santa Clause.lhslep134;1767070 wrote:If there is the possibility that I am Santa Clause, then there is the possibility I will be giving you presents this Christmas.

I see your daughter left out the part where the people that staff this industry are typically women, sometimes older, and out of shape. Still feeling confident in training them to ward off attackers with combat gear and assault rifles? Look, you want to propose we eliminate gun free zones and more people get their CCW's, then I'd agree it'd help. But your half-ass plan of "providing proper training and equipment" in this scenario isn't making a difference.Belly35;1767057 wrote:My daughter who works in the developmental disabled health field think this building was an administration, counselors, social workers and job shop type building.
