18-54 covers most all able bodied males. The President's orders only come into play when he is in need of additional force and gains the permission of congress to take charge of militia's. Grab our muskets! Away we go!

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Every person has a right to bear arms, and our founding fathers saw that it was needed for people to best protect themselves. If you look at places in the United States where this right has been restricted, you will see highest violent crime rates.

People had firearms before the government acknowledged such and they continue to have them today and they will continue to have them in the future. The actions of the government is not what put firearms in the people's possession.

gosh a ruddies do all you gun nuts ignore context. There is another part of the 2nd Amendment. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of the free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." And according to the Constitution why do we have this militia: to repel foreign invasion, enforce federal law and put down internal insurrections. And who has the power to regulate it, set its rules, decide who belongs-The United States government. And who can infringe on or abolish the 2nd Amendment, the Congress, National Convention, State Legislatures and state conventions.

...and yet none of those are similar to guns but I appreciate your effort. At this time next year the people on this board who own guns will still have them.

Maybe then you should abolish guns and see if they are removed from our society. My bet is the result will be the same as convicted felons being restricted from having and using guns...they still do.

Gun issues in our country won't ever be solved by legislation. They are cultural issues and if we truly wish to de-emphasize guns and their use it's going to take some time. We may be on that path now.
