Not sure how the playoff committee makes something crazy this week to get the talking going again. 1-4 can't change....
5. Iowa
6. Ok St
7-9 Florida, Oklahoma, Utah (if win)
10. Mich St?
Maybe a huge jump for UNC, Navy or Houston

If a 1 loss OK beats TCU and OK St they should pass a 1 loss ND now that Stanford has lost.

Texas with a common opponent is what complicates that. ND destroyed Texas, and OK lost to them.Tiernan;1763545 wrote:If a 1 loss OK beats TCU and OK St they should pass a 1 loss ND now that Stanford has lost.

The Temple win for ND is not that impressive now. Their marquee win is now NAVY. Hopefully Stanford takes care of business and silences all the ND BS anyway.

It really isn't about the quality of wins now. It's about the loss total. Enough has happened and enough is going to happen based on head to head attrition, that ND is almost a lock to get in the final 4 if they just don't lose.
You essentially have only 12 teams with any shot of making the final 4. Houston is 13th, but I'm excluding them at this point. You also have 8 of those 12 teams being 1-loss teams, who are assuredly out with a loss.
This weekend alone, you have Ohio State/Michigan State, Baylor/Oklahoma State, TCU/Oklahoma. If the unbeatens hold, you will have 3 of these 12 teams eliminated.
Next weekend, Baylor/TCU, Oklahoma State/Oklahoma and championship week, North Carolina/Clemson, Ohio State/Iowa, Florida/Alabama.
I don't know the odds, but I'd venture to say ND is a lock if they go 11-1.

Except you forgot to mention the committee does give extra weight to the conference championship game of which ND won't even participate in. ND isn't a lock by any means provided the 4 power conference champions with a championship game only have 1 loss.Azubuike24;1763787 wrote:It really isn't about the quality of wins now. ND shouldn't be a lock. I don't feel they are a top 4 team. The committee will definitely favor a champ, if they are equal with ND. A 2-loss champ? Nope.
With that said, Sleeper, the landscape of the playoff right now is setting up perfectly for ND. They aren't going to get beat out by a 2-loss team. No matter who that is. Unfortunately, for those NOT wanting to see ND, they better hope they lose, because with so many games head to head that will eliminate contenders, it's going to take the perfect scenario to keep a 1-loss ND out.
With that said, I truly believe whoever gets the #1 seed gets a big break against ND in the semis. For instance, you could see an Ohio State/Alabama semi final while Clemson plays Notre Dame. That would be a huge break.

Actually, if you want ND out, you should root for the following...
Michigan State beats Ohio State, neither team loses the rest of the way
Michigan State beats unbeaten Iowa in the Big Ten Championship
Alabama and Florida remain unbeaten until the SEC Championship
North Carolina beats unbeaten Clemson in the ACC Championship
Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State, neither team loses any other games
Baylor, TCU, Florida/Alabama would be eliminated, but you would then end up with eight 1-loss teams including Notre Dame. This would be a clusterfuck, but it would pretty much eliminate the Irish from the discussion as the four 1-loss conference champs would likely make it in.

I don't want ND out. I want them to play Ohio State in game 1 so we can rest our starters for the championship game.

Very decent chance that if OSU wins out and ND wins out, that's one semifinal.
While Clemson winning out, you would figure they stay #1, I don't see the committee having a rematch of a regular season game in a semi.
Ohio State vs Notre Dame
Clemson vs Alabama

That would be the dream scenario if you are a Buckeyes fan. Nightmare from hell if you are an Irish fan.Azubuike24;1763895 wrote:Very decent chance that if OSU wins out and ND wins out, that's one semifinal.

Well, certainly OSU has to like their chances, but I'd think most Irish fans would take just making the playoff at this point.

Agreed. If we do make the playoff I would love to play Clemson again. Definitely think we are the better team. Ohio st. And bama not so much lol. Unless somehow the secondary figures out how not to give up big plays smh.Azubuike24;1763898 wrote:Well, certainly OSU has to like their chances, but I'd think most Irish fans would take just making the playoff at this point.

Nobody else is relevant to the playoff discussion. And really, only the top 8 are at this point. A 1-loss Big 12 champ who didn't beat all of the rest of the teams isn't getting in. Oklahoma, despite losing to Texas, would be heavily considered if they get wins over Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State. I still feel they are well on the outside looking in though...unless Notre Dame or the Big 10/SEC Champ is a 2-loss team.
A 1-loss Alabama/Florida or 1-loss Michigan State will get the nod over Oklahoma.
