Whats up guys? I have been reading FreeHuddle since JJ decided to screw over its members. I never posted on JJ and I have yet to post here, I figured now would be a good time to start.

I know that the P90x thread was pretty popular over on the other site but I havent seen a thread on it since I started reading Freehuddle. Have any of you guys tried it out? I'm looking to get started but I have a few questions before I do. I guess I'll just wait to see if anybody has gone through the program before I post them. I apologize if there has already been a thread on this.

Free Huddlers don't do P90x.

I was going to start my second round this week, but I sprained my ankle pretty bad yesterday. Holding off till the swelling goes down!

What questions do you have? It is an excellent program as far as I'm concerned. There are others that have done it so I'm sure they will weigh in also. My best advice is once you do your initial weigh in...PUT YOUR SCALES AWAY and don't weigh yourself until you are done with the program!

How much weight did you use? I have a set of adjustable dumbbells that can range from 10-40 lbs. I know that alot of people change the weight they use depending on the excercise but I just want to get a general idea on what the majority of people use. Is the nutrition guide tough to follow? I'm a student and I dont really have time to go home and cook 5 meals a day. Do they have any recipes for people on the go that might not be home all day.

I haven't tried it , but my son lost 100 lbs. doing it. I wish he had taken a before and after pix.

I'm on my 2nd round since last March and it's the real deal! Take it seriously, buy into it, and do you best and you will see results!

Half the battle is the diet...at least for me. If you go and read the thread on obesity I'm sure you'll be enlightened on fat people and metabolism. I'm not one of the lucky people that can eat about anything any time and either maintain without working out or lose while working out. I had to follow the diet to the T and lost 30lbs in my first round. 2nd round I'm not following the diet as closely and it's tougher to lose that much at that point, but I'm down 12 (even after a 2.5 week haitus for holiday binges) and just started phase 3 on Saturday.

Can females do it? I really need a work out routine as I've put on about 10 pounds since boot camp. I'm not one of those motivational go to the gym type people and I honestly don't have much time so doing it in my room before class would be great.

Yes. Tony has at least one female in every work out. He will show modified moves for beginners and not as strong to start out with.

10 (shoulder and tris are some of the lighter) to 40 (lawnmowers and calf raises are some of the heavier) should be a good range.

Yep! I'm a girl and I love it! Just make sure you're doing more reps and work fast between sets so that you're burning. That will help keep you lean and strong rather than bulky strong like a guy.

As for weights, I started out with EVERYTHING at 10 or less (except back exercises). Now I don't do anything under 12.5 and up to 20, up to 30 for back stuff.

Thanks dancin for the advice, I'm gonna pick this up this weekend and give it a try. Hopefully I can stay motivated enough to do it.

What about the protein shakes? I've never been one to use any supplements but I saw that the program recommends that you use whey powder to make your protein shakes. Is this stuff safe? Expensive? Side affects? My buddy took creatine in highschool and it really made his skin breakout. I know that whey and creatine are completely different but I dont feel like having acne when I'm 25.

I just ordered last night so I'm trying to get everything ready for when it gets here. I have the chin up bar and dumbbells, do I really need the yoga mat/blocks and the pushup bars?

I don't do P90X but do use protein shakes religiously. They're great at getting quality protein in and very safe. You won't get acne by taking whey. I take both and have never had any "side effects" and I have a very sensitive stomach. Just research the brands you plan to take.

What whey powder have some of you used in the past? I'm not sure whats considerred "good" and whats "bad". I went to the place at the Gateway earlier today and the guy tried to sell me a big jug of the stuff that cost like 70 bucks, does that sound right or is that too expensive? I've done my research about the P90x program but I am totally in the dark when it comes to buying supplements. I've seen some cheap stuff at CVS and Target and then really expensive stuff at GNC. Is there that big of a difference?

dont ever buy anything from GNC...they jack their prices so high its outrageous...bodybuilding.com and vitacost.com (free shipping on all orders no matter how big) are a couple sites that i use

why protein is completely safe as long as you dont over do it...about 25 g protein supplemented to your regular diet (1 shake) per day should be plenty

the mat is nice for yoga and ab ripper and push up bars aren't necessary but definitely worth it. and get a heart rate monitor....waaaaaay more fun.

Ytown girl - I'm 52, soon to be 53! I started p90X mainly to tone up. It works and yes it's hard, but worth it! The nutrition end of it is hard, but once you start it gets easier. I put my scales away after the first weigh inand didn't weigh myself until my 90 days were up. People get too hung up on the weight part. You'll know it's working when your clothes start feeling loose. Try it and you will see amazing results.

Also Beachbody.com's forums are very helpful!

Did your grocery bill go up? I know it can expensive to eat healthy. I was able to get my dumbbellls and chin up bar for free so my only real expense has been the program itself. I'd like to be able to do this without spending too much money. Outside of the obvious (fruits, veggies, chicken etc) what other types of food do they recommend?

Mine did because I was eating a lot of egg whites, yogurt, cottage cheese, and then after phase 1 whole grain everything, organic soups, etc. The veggies are cheap but they get old quick. I went through a lot of phases (and still do) with veggies, from steamed hot, cut up cold, salad, roasted, grilled, and soups. I get stuck on 1 thing for about a week and eat so damn much of it I get sick of it. Some phases are more expensive than others.

I think the most expensive part is getting fresh turkey breast, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, turkey brats, ground turkey, turkey everything. Strawberries can get expensive this time of year but are the best to eat.

To answer your question from way earlier about preparing meals, I often would grill 6-8 chicken breasts at once, a bunch of turkey sausage, etc. so I just had to pack it up and bring it along or heat it up quick early in the morning or if I get home late. Also, I have found that pounding out your chicken breasts before grilling lets them cook faster and stay more moist (especially when reheating). Roasting 6-8 split chicken breasts (remove the skin before eating) is a little more appropriate if you're not a winter griller :)

Oh and pork loin.....don't forget that!

I always mix my own rubs for the meat but Mrs. Dash makes a ton of salt-free seasoning blends.

I know my diet basically consists of Omega-3 eggs, chicken breasts, bagged salads, natural almonds, peanut butter, bananas/apples, and shakes and it always works when I stick to it. Lost about 30 lbs in three months at the beginning of '09 all while increasing my strength considerably in all my lifts.
