Starting week 12 this week, my knees really hurt when I did the chair lunges at the beginning of legs the last couple of times. I am doing the workout right but something about that movemetn just tweaks something in my knees. I thnk I need some wraps.
Are you doing p90x or insanity, because there is a big difference between the 2. In p90x pushing the pause button is encouraged if necessary, in order to get a complete workout. For insanity (what sonofump is doing), pushing the pause for these 2 minute breaks is completely defeating the purpose. There is a reason why in Shaun T's workouts you go hard for 3-5 mins then take a 30 second break (unless it's pure cardio). There is nothing wrong with doing the pushups on your knees if you are completely winded. I guarantee you are so tired you will still get a burn from them. Insanity is meant to challenge your physical toughness as well are you mental toughness. Pressing the pause button is taking the easy way out imo. You are only going to get to a certain level of conditioning if you don't improve your mental conditioning. Start with the knee pushups and eventually you will find yourself doing regular pushups. Stay away from that pause button.
Also, if you are struggling with phase 1 of insanity, I suggest sticking with that phase for a couple more weeks before even jumping to phase 2, because it definitely is not going to get any easier.

Honestly, i'd say make use of the pause button and do them at your own pace
I have seen plenty of professional/olympic athletes go through non stop circuit workouts, and toward the end of the workout when they are burning out they do push ups on their knees instead of taking breaks. Are they women too?
