So about ten days ago, I was having a good time swimming at our family reunion when my wife noticed my eyes were turning yellow. So obviously I go to the emergency room and now my neck and chest were turning yellow. After a 6 hour wait, I finally get seen and they take a Ct scan...... Mass on Pancreas.. Dr says doesn't look like typical pancreatic cancer but they want to admit me because the tumor is blocking my bile duct causing jaundice. Oddly enough I felt fine. Just jaundice and dark urine. So now I was admitted Sunday night but due to the type of scope I needed done I had to sit in hospital until Wednesday. So as you can imagine 4 days in hospital with no answers and a lot of time to Google everything was pointing to pancreatic cancer which if you don't know is pretty much a death sentence as by the time it shows symptoms, it is to late.

So I had scope last Wednesday and biopsy. Get results yesterday and it is not Pancreatic cancer but a Neuroendocrine Tumor of the Pancreas. It is on the head. Dr says this is good news as it is a rare tumor but curable and removable through surgery as it is slow and hasn't spread anywhere.

I meet with surgeon tomorrow to decide which surgery. Either a simple tumor removal or a whipple(part of pancreas, gall bladder, duodenum) which is a pretty extensive surgery. 1 to 2 month recovery. So it seems I got lucky possibly but still will need surgery and precautionary chemo for a couple months possibly. But after that Dr fully expects a return to normal and chance to live a long life. I'm only 35 now.

Oh yea, fuck cancer.

Google searches of a medical issue can have one resigned to his doom in just a few clicks. A year ago I had heart valve repair surgery. In the months prior to surgery I began to experience shortness of breath. At times with my laptop slung over my shoulder I would have to rest in the mail room on the walk to my office from the parking lot (no stairs or inclines). With doctors using the words "enlarged heart" and "heart failure" my google searches got pretty scary.

I was thankful surgery could fix the problem and I could expect a normal life. Like you I am young (42). The immediate post op will be tough but they got some good drugs for that. This morning I got up at around 5:30 and jogged about 20x my walk to the office with a couple of short hills. I'm sure you will do well. Let us know how things go.

As someone with no medical qualifications whatsoever, I would hazard that the bile duct blockage would be the culprit there.

Yes Bile Duct Blockage caused dark urine. Was a dark orange almost.

So thank you all for encouragement. Surgeon said today that other than being there in the first place that my situation couldn't be better. Surgery next week then slow recovery. Could be back to work in 3-6 weeks but won't feel "normal" for about 6 months.
