Crawford said referees incorrectly allowed Tim Duncan to enter the game during a video review following Ray Allen's tying basket, a rules violation that led to a fine for the officiating crew. The Heat went on to beat the Spurs in overtime.
"So we go over and what happens, Duncan came in the game and he's not allowed to come in the game. So he came in the game, thank God he didn't score a bucket. That would have been awful."
Duncan replaced Boris Diaw and inbounded the ball on San Antonio's final possession.
If the Spurs had scored on the play, the Heat could have filed a protest and likely would have won.
Spurs celebrate a title, parade and all, only to find out they lose a protest. Who knows how long it would have taken to realize Duncan illegally entered the game and how they would have resolved it.
