gosh a ruddies, Pits kill again.

Neighbor shot pit bull that killed woman in Shaker Heights

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – A Shaker Heights man shot and wounded a pit bull as it attacked a 71-year-old Cleveland woman.
The gunshot wasn't enough to save Annie L. Williams, who died after the Sunday afternoon attack in the 3600 block of Pennington Road.
Shaker Heights police eventually shot and killed the dog.
<audio title="9-1-1 call" id="audio-player-id-1367950624" style="width: 280px;" controls="controls"><source src="http://media.cleveland.com/shaker-heights/audio/pit%20bull1.mp3"></audio> [h=3]911 call[/h]

Darlene White, 45, saw the attack from her home two doors down. The screams awakened her from a nap at about 2 p.m.
White looked out her window and saw Williams on the ground in front of her neighbor's home. She recognized Williams as the grandmother of the dog's owner.
Several neighbors rushed to Williams and to fend off the dog. It's unclear whether anyone else was injured.
A neighbor shot the dog as it stood on top of Williams in the midst of its attack.
The injured pit bull ran into the backyard where it stayed until police arrived.
White said that she heard officers fire three gunshots.
Paramedics arrived after police, White said. They performed CPR before taking Williams to South Pointe Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The entire attack lasted about 10 minutes.
"All I know is there was blood everywhere," White said. "He did a nasty job."

The area of Shaker Heights at one time had Golden Retrievers, Labs and Boxers as the neighborhood pets but now the area is surrounded by and filtrated with the Democrat voter base population..... and this is the result.

In only 5 posts (6 after this one), this thread has cracked me up with some of the comments.

...and while I am indifferent to pitbulls or any other dangerous breed of dog, lets remember who is in control of these animals? Usually the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I'm amazed. A thread started by Izzy with only a handful of posts and his is only winning the bronze medal for stupidity so far.

How in the fuck do they allow this guy to continue to make rap albums? He's running around the country killing and maiming. Pitbull needs to be stopped.

A couple of things struck me while reading this and similarities to/ relevance to the gun debate. Gun rights people talk about the need for gun ownership for protection, especially in rural areas where it might take 20 minutes for a sheriff to respond to an emergency call. Here is a case that illustrates that. A neighbor with a gun was able to shoot the dog, and although in the end, she died anyway, at least he gave her a chance. The police arrived several minutes later....there would have been no chance at all.

Secondly, we always talk about "responsible gun ownership" versus an outright ban. It seems to me that pit bull ownership is pretty much the same. Most vets/dog experts say that pit bulls are not necessarly aggressive animals, but when they are trained to be, they can/will be dangerous...In much the same way that guns by themselves are not necessarly at fault, but they can kill when purposed to do so. You don't need to ban the breed, but negligent owners needs to be aggressively prosecuted, in the same way criminals who use a gun are.

so that dog owner should be rung up on manslaughter charges? Negligent homicide?

Yes. If you have a dangerous breed then you should be responsible for controlling it.

Don't be ridiculous. I shouldn't be responsible for my negligence!

Did some homework and you're right...seems like a slummy place to live. Based on per-capita income it ranks 26th in Ohio, wedged between the slums of Dublin and the swallows of Oakwood.

When you think about it, we register guns, but we don't register dangerous dogs. I don't know how you would even do that.... And how would you even define that. But I do know that if I leave my weapon unsecured it is going to take someone to pick it up, point it, and pull the trigger before it will do damage..... An unsecured vicious animal can attack anyone anytime without any action by a human. That would seem to make them potentially more dangerous than guns.

It seems pretty easy to me. If Joe Shmoe's dog gets loose and it mauls/kills someone, Joe Shmoe is liable.

Distinguishing between breeds is irrelevant. The owner should always be responsible for their pets and their actions.

People who clamor for the banning of specific breeds of dogs are idiots.

It is totally irresponsible to own this type dog. Pit Bulls kill far more people than any other type dog. So many types have no record of killing humans, why should people own such a killer dog.
