I've watched over 4 decades of the NBA so I CAN have an opinion. While you were swimming around in your daddy's testicles, I was watching the Red Auerbach Celtics, the Miracle at Richfield, Rudy T getting his face crushed by Kermit Washington and Buffalo, when they actually had a team. So you really CAN'T have an opinion unless you've actually seen it to judge it.
I agree with S&L that yes, the rules HAVE changed but the players from yesteryear were tougher. You didn't see Larry Bird & Magic Johnson hanging out in South Beach in the offseason because they were "boys" from back in the day on some CYO team.
As I said, more athletic now? Definitely. Softer now? Most definitely.

I don't think players are soft I think the vast majority are world class athletes that prefer to get up and down the court and believe the NBA as a whole prefers it for the purpose of the fans and not allow the play that leads to 81-76 games with Anthony Mason being great player
