In everyone life time certain events, situation and some individuals have altered the course of your life. You may not have known it at the time, only realize it later or it could have happen instantly. What was one of your life altering occasions?

In my life I’ve had so many that just to pick one would be difficult. Each had some type of a profound effect on my life.

Right now it understanding that I’m growing old, my strength is not what it was just 5 years ago, I take five pills just to control my body, knowing that I will be blind before I die is a heavy burdened. I’ve always been in control and will continue to work to keep my health but knowing that time, limited future awaits me is an inspiration to do something with my remaining life, something big and something that will leave a bigger legacy for others to follow. Problem is I just don’t know what it will be… but the Lord will as always direct me to that path...

Opening, and then trying to read this thread.

As a destined loser as of March 18th 1994 I met a person that would change my life forever, March 18th 1995 I married her. The last 21 years are irreplaceable , I have been truly blessed with an absolute gem.

I think everyone has things that at the time didnt seem like a huge deal but could have changed their lives.
Thinking about myself and what set my life into motion I think that if I had gone and played college baseball, albeit at a small place, would have helped continue with my education.

It may sound contrived but 9/11 set forth in motion, even years after, my future to a point. In seeing our young Americans, my brother on a number of combat tours, take the brunt of fighting our battles and feeling it isnt fair for it to all fall onto them I enlisted myself at the ripe ole age of 35. Although only a reservist I have got to do some cool things. At times it sucks, but then there are many times I think to myself "I get PAID to do this shit?" I have yet to deploy as our unit was getting back when I was at basic/AIT so we have been on standown. I have volunteered for a couple with other units but they only took 4-5 from our unit on those who were in leadership roles. I am hoping at some point to get the call.

I think it has helped keep me young trying to keep up with people half my age. Leaving many of this kids in my dust during our PT tests is validation enough that I can still do it. For the most part I have enjoyed it and hope to continue until the Army says I cannot serve any longer. Sometimes sleeping on the ground in the rain in the woods on our training leaves me thinking "wtf am I doing" but when I think about the experience as a whole I have to say I enjoy it.

Very cool, you should be very proud of who you are.... I have a great deal of respect for people like you who step out of the norm and achieve.

July 31st, 2014 - Diagnosed with diabetes.

August 1st, 2014 - Decided its time to make some lifestyle changes before it was too late.

As of May 28th, 2015 - I've lost 108 pounds.

Type II diabetes ... been there, still there... that news did make a change in my life also, congraduaation on the weight lose that great wow. That really helps

I'm with ya...working on year 14. But I do have 4 wonderful young boys...so maybe its not so bad!

I could thank(?) a guidance counselor, whose name I cannot remember, for talking me out of aerospace engineering, and into health science. I had grown up in the midst of the 'space race'....and my dream as a kid was to be a rocket scientist. My grades in the sciences including chemistry and physics were top notch and my test scores were there to match. But, at the time, Project Apollo was winding down, the Space Shuttle was years off, and NASA was laying off engineers left and right.
At the last minute, I changed my college apps from tech schools to liberal arts pre-med programs. And that, as Frost would say, has made all the difference. A few years ago I went to Kennedy Space Center for the first time, and walked thru the exhibits and rocket 'garden'....the path not taken.
