I haven't needed to find a buyer for a used vehicle in many years. All my recent cars/trucks have gone to either a friend or a family member who basically volunteered to buy it from me.

My situation now is that I need to sell a vehicle from my brother's estate and the sooner I do it, the better.

Just looking for advice from the OC on the best way to unload it. Do I go to a used car dealer? Craig's list?

Right now all I've done is put For Sale signs in the windows and have it sitting in the driveway.

Your best bet is trying to sell on your own, you will lose a nice chunk at a lot. Craigslist is good, autotrader is good, local classifieds, find a "rummage sale" site for your local area on Facebook.

I'd go to the used car lot as a last resort.

I have fiduciary right to try to get fair market price so getting top dollar is not necessarily a priority. At this point it pretty much needs to get gone so we can settle probate. He also had a little run-in with a pole while parking (he was on meds and probably shouldn't have been driving), so there is a little damage which will mean the price we get will be lower.

For future reference, in Ohio you can name a beneficiary for the vehicle so it can avoid probate. Forms are on-line with county title office.

Don't go to a car lot. You won't get near what you should for it. Just get the word out that it's for sale and advertiser however and wherever you can.

I paid money to try to sell a 2010 Camaro and a 2004 Jeep Liberty to Autotrader.com & Cars.com. Waited & waited. Put it on Craigslist and it was gone in no time. Just watch out for scammers.

What kind of car? I think craigslist is a good but. There are also so many car enthusiast forums out there, that you would have a good chance of selling it. My buddy posts on an Audi forum, and he has made numerous purchase and sales through that forum. It is surprising how many people are willing to travel across to country to buy an older car.

Thanks for the advice. My son has sold a couple cars on Craig's List so it's good to see others have found success on it too.

I purposely did not mention what kind of car because I just wanted to see what are the best ways to sell a vehicle today. But since it has been asked… my brother had two kids, age 7 & 9 so he bought a 2013 Toyota Sienna. It's actually a very nice drive and gets good gas mileage.

If you'd like more details, PM me. If you know of any forums that are geared for this kind of van, please let me know. That seems like a good way to sell it too.
