This draft sucks. He's gonna go in the top 8...but I also am hesitant drafting an old 22-year old that high. I'd much rather have someone like Jamal Murray or Jaylen Brown.Midstate01;1779058 wrote:I've missed a lot of college basketball this year with the move and being on the west coast. So tell me, is Hield a real star? Like NBA star potential or a kid just playing with incredible confidence?

My eyes got big listening to that... when she asked about Simmons, I literally could not tell you what his answer was.. lolSportsAndLady;1779061 wrote:No clue what the hell Hield just said during any of that interview lol
That being said, he's your POY.

Caveat, also depends what team is making the pick. A team who sucks that is playing for 2018 or 2019, draft the best one and done guy you can get. A team who thinks they can contend in a year or 2, Hield could be an immediate starters, 15-20 PPG SG.

The last UK trip to Allen Fieldhouse was during the last year of Tubby ball. It was so painful.

Kemba Walker is doing just fine. Getting Hield anywhere above 5 would be an absolute steal.Azubuike24;1779064 wrote:This draft sucks. He's gonna go in the top 8...but I also am hesitant drafting an old 22-year old that high. I'd much rather have someone like Jamal Murray or Jaylen Brown.

I guess I've always believed you go for the superstar that high. Kemba Walker is good, but he's not really a top tier player.

Hield is a bit of a different animal. Cause he is a lights out shooter. I doubt he is a star, cause he isn't an incredible athlete. But he is a safe pick to not fail in the league. He is gonna be a guy who can always score the ball.

We'll see in 2-3 years how many Spartans circa 2015-16 are in the NBA...

MSU is severely lacking talent. Davis is probably their only NBA guy with Valentine having a shot. Coaching matters though and they have one of the greatest ever. Lsu has more talent, but they suck cause thier coach sucks. Florida state has more God given talent. Same with lots of teams...with bad coaches.

Agree with this. Put Izzo with FSU or LSU and they are doing a ton better than what they are. Put Hamilton or Jones with Michigan State and they are not top 15 team in the nation.Laley23;1779092 wrote:He isn't getting crushed for it because it's true.

I think both Davis and Valentine are easily NBA players...eventually. Valentine's skill will find him a role that sticks. That doesn't change the fact that the roster is less-talented than many teams who don't have as good of results. LSU is a great example. Between Simmons, Victor, Quarterman and Blakeney, they have 4 guys with great NBA odds. Yet they have 8 losses....
While typically a decent coach, look at Vanderbilt. Both Damian James and Wade Baldwin have been liked by some as eventual lottery picks. Kornet has a great shot at the league. They have 9 losses.
UCLA, 9 losses
NC State, 10 losses
Ohio State, 8 losses
California, 7 losses
There are many examples.

Didn't say much about the UK/KU game last night, but it's the first time this year I've started to not worry as much about this UK team. They are VERY similar to the 2010-11 team that lost 7 road games and a neutral court game, but got hot late, started to gel and made the Final Four. That team only went 6 deep and never had Enes Kanter on the inside. They relied heavily on 4 guards/wings (Knight, Lamb, Miller, Liggins) and had 2 primary inside players (Harrellson, Jones). Those guys could all defend, score and played together. Their versatility allowed them to basically get to the Final Four with 6 deep.
This UK team is deeper, but Cal has started to cut the rotation down. He's going heavy minutes on Ulis, Murray and Briscoe. Willis, Poythress and Lee round out the next 3, but all are prone to lapses and fouls. He can then go to Skal, who is a major wild card along with Matthews, Hawkins and Mulder. A lot more depth than that team, but not the consistency yet. There is still time, but I think a similar situation could happen here where UK ends up as a 4/5 seed it a #1 seed's bracket, and with the top end teams being lacking, it's wide open.
Of course, with an incredible class coming in next year, it would be awesome if a few guys stayed (Ulis, Briscoe, Lee maybe) and created a dynamic team (like the 2011-12 team that got Lamb, Miller and Jones back) that can dominate.

Again you keep bringing up prospects for the NBA but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the best college players. Was Evan Turner the best prospect ever? No way but the guy was unstoppable at Ohio State. Bottom line is Costello has really developed his shot to become a double double machine, Forbes has became a nearly Diebler like shooter, and McQuaid is really coming into his own. Plus they have a high intensity bench that come in and add tough minutes.Azubuike24;1779101 wrote:I think both Davis and Valentine are easily NBA players...eventually. To say any of those teams you mentioned are more talented than MSU is laughable

There's not a player on Ohio States roster I see playing in the NBA. KBD may be drafted late second round if he gets better but not another player will even get drafted IMO.

Again, we're talking talent. Not how good they are in college. Izzo is a great coach. He finds guys who will carve out roles, even if it isn't evident when they are recruited. Nobody is denying that. Nobody is denying MSU isn't a threat.Classyposter58;1779168 wrote:Again you keep bringing up prospects for the NBA but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the best college players. I've ALWAYS been a talent guy though, especially in today's college game. More often than not, you NEED talent to win a title. Maybe not make the Elite 8 or Final 4...but win a title. Show me a title team in the last 15 years that don't have high, high draft picks and NBA talent. Almost all of them do...the 2009-10 Duke team is one. There aren't many others.

If the NBA covets terrible pgs then I agree with you.Laley23;1779185 wrote:Lyle will I think. 6-4 PGs like that are coveted.
I don't know how many games of OSU you guys have seen but they don't have great talent. Giddens could make the league as a backup big to rebound and defend but that's even a reach. The rest will probably never sniff the league without huge improvements.
I will agree msu does not have top 10 talent though izzo is just a great coach

I watched Lyle in high school for 4 years. I was incredibly grateful he chose osu and not Iu. That said, he is incredibly talented. Osu was a terrible school for him to choose.

Last year, 6 teams entered the NCAA's with 3 or less losses. The four #1 seeds had a COMBINED 8 losses. This year, we have only THREE power 6 teams with 2 losses, everyone else has more. Oklahoma, Xavier and South Carolina. Gamecocks play at Georgia and at Texas A&M, so there's a good chance they fall this week. St. Mary's also has 2 losses, but they play at BYU on Thursday...that's likely a loss.

Kentucky goes down. South Carolina goes down. UNC, Baylor, and SMU all lost last night.
Ugly 2 nights for ranked teams.
