So we've had a trip booked to Hawaii now for several months, and yesterday we just found out that our Airbnb host has cancelled our reservation. Our trip is coming up in less than 2-months. We now have plane tickets to a place that we're now going to be forced to scramble around and try to find a nice place to stay at that we like, as well as likely face increased prices due to the short notice.

How do Airbnb Hosts get away with this kind of stuff? I Google'd this last night, and it actually sounds like it's more of a common/frequent practice than you would think. Anyone else ever experienced a similar situation like this? What did you do?

Any suggestions of where to stay / places to see on Oahu?

There are hotels all over Oahu you can stay at. I'm sure with a 2 month notice that it maybe a little increase but not that much.

We used their website to get a house for my bachelor weekend. It was awesome and cheap.

We used Airbnb when we went to Ashville a few years ago and ended up getting our stay for free (minus the Airbnb fee) because our host thought the other tenants in her building would annoy us.

We are going to Oahu for 2 weeks in May but we are staying at a Marriott resort.

2 months is more than enough time to find places to stay.

File a lawsuit. Say they canceled because you are gay.

We had a bad experience with Airbnb last year with our Alaska trip and ended up dealing directly with the owner. You might want to check out VRBO to see what is available. We've had great experiences using VRBO.

Our other place (we were splitting our trip into stay at 2 different place) is booked/reserved using VRBO. Glad to hear that that's a little better...

considering the nature of the Airbnb business, this seems like this would be more towards the norm in my opinion.

and 2 months seems like plenty of time to find another spot to stay.

You can't really judge the entire site based on one shitty experience with a cancellation.

I've heard good and bad with all of them.
