OK, have never done this, but wondering if someone could provide insight. Here is scenario:

- Just bought a new truck, no tags yet
- Just turned in a leased vehicle to Honda dealer, Honda has old title, I have old tags
- Can I use these tags for my new vehicle, or is it easier to get new tags?
- What is the process for setting up current tags to use for new truck?

Since the Honda was a leased vehicle the car wasn't yours and therefore I do not believe you can transfer the license plates. I could be wrong but usually a transfer of the tags usually is from one vehicle you own to another you own. I know there are some car people on this site so they can probably correct me if I'm wrong.

Surprised the dealership didn't help you with this. I just bought a new ford fusion, they put the same plates from my old car onto the new one and took care of all the paperwork for me

Dealership still normally helps with all that.

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4503.12

(6) Upon application to the registrar or a deputy registrar, a person who owns or leases a motor vehicle may transfer special license plates assigned to that vehicle to any other vehicle that the person owns or leases or that is owned or leased by the person's spouse. As appropriate, the application also shall be accompanied by a power of attorney for the registration of a leased vehicle and a written statement releasing the special plates to the applicant. Upon a proper filing, the registrar or deputy registrar shall assign the special license plates to the motor vehicle owned or leased by the applicant and issue a new certificate of registration for that motor vehicle.

This looks to apply to your situation.

After looking at the Ohio BMV's website, I don't see any information that distinguishes between transferring plates from owned vehicle to owned vehicle vs. leased to owned.

I'm not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night

Unfortunately, I was in a rush to get out the door. Needed to drop the car off and get out of there ASAP. I had already bought the truck. Should I just call Honda Lease Trust?

I don't think you can switch tags from a car to a truck. I could be wrong.

How big a truck? Cars have car plates-trucks need truck plates. Will probably have to get new ones.

T'is true. The truck will take non-commercial plates.
