Where's the news about Jones possibly being a Lion coming from? I don't see that happening...

Negative. Marshall should be a Seahawk soon.
You can bet that means no chance of Eric Berry ever getting to Cleveland at 7 as they would not pass on him at 6.

The Thomas Jones signing in Detroit is good for them. I wanted no part of him in Cleveland, but he could do well there. Very very solid start to the free agency period for the Lions as they have been aggressive while at the same time not mortgaging the future to win now (try to at least).

If they signed V. Jackson they'd have to give up a 1 and 3 (I THINK) no way I'd want to do that.

I didn't think the defense was that bad last year so I'm not sure why everyone is all about drafting defense. Sure there are some needs, but its clear the problem with the Browns is a dismal offense. Brady and DA are both jokes, we have no premier WR's, no TE, and no depth at RB. Our O-line is okay, on one side, and terrible on the other.

I'm no expert on football, but it seems every year Browns fans preach this "use all the picks for defense" when its clear that its our offense that is the problem.

And seriously, Cribbs getting near 6 million a year? LOL

Yea, thats why I wouldn't mind if Cleveland took Okung/Campbell/Williams in round 1, Ducasse in Round 2, and a WR in Round 3. Right there that sets up our entire O-Line for the future.

They have a servicable pass catching TE, but he does not appear large enough to be an everydown TE that will block regularly.

Cleveland had the #32 offense and #31 defense. Yes the defense was that bad.

If you are a crappy team like Cleveland located in a division where defense has shown to win games, you build your defense 1st.

The Steelers and Ravens have proven that a nasty defense will take you places behind an okay offense.

big strong QB but waits a little too long to get rid of it

what kind of offense do the Browns run and will it change with Holmgren?

Cleveland had the #32 offense and #31 defense. Yes the defense was that bad.

If you are a crappy team like Cleveland located in a division where defense has shown to win games, you build your defense 1st.

The Steelers and Ravens have proven that a nasty defense will take you places behind an okay offense.
Those defensive rankings don't mean much to me, simply because the Browns defense was on the field 10x more then they should be. 3 and outs consistently don't help a defense, but from just watching them play, its entirely clear to me our defense can hack it, but our offense is shit.

Now sure, I wouldn't mind grabbing a defensive talent in the draft, but we really need to focus on those 5 positions of need(QB, WR, TE, RB, OL), or in other words, the entire offense besides Thomas.

I think it had to do with more of our defensive coaching as Ryan is pretty damn good.

Add him some real high level talent and that defense becomes legit right away. The only way this organization will become contenders is by creating a stellar defense.

Through the draft though?

I really think Holgrem/Heckert are going to come in here and make it their mission to revamp the offense. Call it a hunch, I suppose, but I don't see the Browns drafting a bunch of defensive talent, they are going to get a QB, some OL, and some WR's, book it!

On the wide receiver front, I am not sure what his issues are as far as health and what kind of money he is looking for, but the Browns should maybe re-open the door on bringing Antonio Bryant back at wideout. He has his issues at times, but he is productive at least, and would be an upgrade over anything else the Browns have right now. He is also a free agent if I am not mistaken, so it would cost anything more than money to bring him in. He is about to turn 29, so it is not like he is a TO at the very end of the road.

There are no real good options out there, but they have to do something to bring in credible wide-outs because it will help the running game to have some receivers on the perimeter defenses actually respect (looking past the fact right now there is no one to get wide-outs the ball).

I just know that if the Browns aren't going to get a few "KEY" signings soon and let other teams come in and get them it's going to hurt. If they do that, let's hope the guys they get in the draft are going to be able to fill the holes and able to contribute. I'm just worried teams are going to get the guys Cleveland is targeting and there will be really nobody left worth getting that will be able to come in and help.

actually it was the steelers offense that won games and championships for then not their defense. the steelers had a good ground attack and would win the time of possesion battle big time. the steelers defense was normally parked on the bench for 40 plus minutes a game. i seen the steelers hold the ball for 8 minutes on one possession and not even score. the browns need to focus on thier running game and be a physical football team. if you didnt notice the browns running game finished the year strong. and the defense started playing better at the same point.

If you didn't notice, we played a bunch of shitty teams at the end of the year.

Defense wins championships, end of story. You cannot win against the Steelers, Ravens, and now Cincy (who improved their defense a lot) with the guys we have overall on the defensive side. We have the coaching over there but now we need the athletes.

I'd like to see what he could do.

From what we have been hearing, the Browns are looking to improve the offensive side via trades and FA while working on the defense via the draft which is what I like to see.

Conflicting reports have 49ers-OT- Tony Pashos signing with Washington but then NOT signing with Washington and headed to Cleveland. Updated reports have Pashos on his way here for a meeting.

Great news. If they can get him and Rob Sims I'll feel golden. If its worth anything, Sims went to Nordonia High School, not sure if he was a Browns fan in high school but hopefully that could contribute to getting him to Cleveland.

Kerry Rhodes was traded to the Cardinals for a 4th and 7th round pick. He had a down year last year, but is still young and for that kind of trade (later picks) I am surprised Mangini wasn't trying to get Holmgren to make a similar offer considering the Browns safety situation and how big an upgrade he would be over what is here.

Not 100% sure on this but I've been given the impression that the "prominent" RFA who's agent they are talking to is Kirk Morrison ILB Oakland. We'd have to give up a 3rd if we landed him.
