Not saying he will, or he won't - but I think he showed too much potential in his early years, not to think that he could make an impact.

Saw yesterday where holmgren retracted the no way ,mccoy starts this year statement. He said if he's the guy he's the guy.

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren clarified remarks he made on draft day about rookie quarterback Colt McCoy not playing in 2010 in an appearance on ESPN2's Mike and Mike in the Morning today. The showed aired live from Progressive Field

"I said, 'perfectly he shouldn't play his first year,''' Holmgren said. "But heck, if he's the guy, he plays.'

Browns coach Eric Mangini also did not completely rule out McCoy for 2010 during rookie camp when he said he learned long ago from Ted Marchibroda to "never say never and never say always. You don't know.''

Both agreed that the plan is still the same: to let McCoy watch how it's done in 2010. But both also know that anything can happen.

Holmgren said conditions have to be pretty ideal for a quarterback to win as a rookie.

"It's not the best thing for a quarterback unless you're a (Jets Mark) Sanchez or a (Ravens Joe) Flacco who has a great defense, a power running game and you don't ask quite as much of those guys their first year,'' he said.

He re-iterated that he thinks Jake Delhomme will rebound from his poor 2009 season.

"He had a horrible year last year by his own admission and I understand why, I believe, and I think he'll be fine, Holmgren said. "In fact, I think he'll help our team because he's a great leader.''

I read that as well. However, I also read where the Cleveland brass doesn't forsee Colt McCoy being anything more than a career NFL back-up, and they'll go after one of the coveted QBs in next year's draft. The article basically made it sound like they drafted Colt when they did to "ease" the minds of Cleveland fans. I personally could care less if we drafted Colt this year or not, and if it meant us drafting him this year or a Jake Locker, Andrew Luck, etc. next year - I'd rather wait 'til next year. Locker appears to be everything an NFL QB has to be to be sucessful in the NFL. He even runs a 4.5 40. Who knows.

Too early to talk about the 2011 draft but I'd rather have Luck than Locker if we were in the market for another QB. Based on raw talent Locker is the favorite in a land slide. Based on play last year I would take Luck. If Steve Sarkisian develops Locker over the offseason I think that he could be scary good. If he gets his completion percentage up and throw less INT's than previous years I think he'll be the #1 pick.

I like Luck more than Locker as well. I was at the Stanford v ND game last season and came away really impressed with that kid. He didnt have to throw the ball that much because Gerhart was running all over them but when he did he looked impressive. I'm not a scout but he appears to have a very strong arm. I think he completed like 70% of his passes that day as well. Locker is Tebow with a better arm/throwing motion. I'd be happy with either one. Lets hope that Colt works out and we dont have to worry about it

I don't really believe the Brown's drafted McCoy to ease the feelings of the fans. They knew the QB position needed to be addressed in the draft this year if possible. Colt slid to round 3, and was there when we picked. It was a no brainer. They really had nothing to lose taking him there, and everything to gain. If he turns out to be a good QB, it's a great pick. If he turns out to be a bust, they don't look bad picking him where they did. Like was said above, let's hope he's good.

This front office does not make its decisions based on the feelings of the fans. Period.

Honestly, this sounds like something off BleacherReport, where any yahoo can spew an opinion based on a bunch of nothing.

Holmgren took McCoy in the third because it was a low risk, very high reward gamble. He sees talent in the young man and, who knows? Maybe he'll develop and become a solid, every down NFL QB. It was a gamble well worth taking and had NOTHING to do with the fans.

The sad thing is that you actually thought that was funny.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the "rivalry" and enjoy the banter back and forth (as I do with UofM and OSU). I have some family members that are Pittspuke fans and the rest of us smart ones are Browns fans.

We make fun of each other all the time during football season, but even with all that, there's no way you could have really thought that line was a good one, a funny one, or a witty one. It was just plain retarded.

That's a REPORTER's words, not those of Holmgren or anyone else in the organization. Pure speculation on the part of the WRITER, an nobody else. I love it when the guys who follow the team think they can get inside the heads of the front office personnel.

Just report what they actually SAY, please. I don't need your psycho-babble to go along with it.
