Most of the complaints I have seen about this season are from people who wanted him to be Saul right off the bat....like two or three episodes in. I think that would have been silly. Agree it has a lot of potential, but "slow" is a gross understatement. Perhaps it was necessary to establish some moral ambivalence in that, at the heart, Mike and Jimmy are good guys....so they can do some very bad things down the road.
Like I said, the quality of writing and acting is there, but in terms of being the compelling drama most people are expecting....a long ways to go. I have a feeling the first season may come to be almost background or a prologue, and people will be like "just skip the first season and start with S2" because the rest will probably stand on its own. But in that regard, S1 was probably a brilliant move to suck-in and satisfy BB fans...maybe even a masterful way to launch a spin-off to transition that core audience.
